Mexico and the US have a similar problem. They often play at the level of their opponents. Look at the US-Cuba game. The US was pretty dire then suddenly woke up at the end! Mexico unfortunately didn't wake up. They assumed that South Africa would be weaker opponents and played that way. Colombia did the same against Panama. This is something that Brazil, Argentina and European teams like Germany and England just don't do. They play every game (or at least try to) at their own level, never at the level of their opponents. So once in a while you'll see something like Mexico beating Brazil or the US beating Portugal but then you'll see those teams suddenly look lacklustre against teams who are weaker. That's why the US and Mexico aren't world powers. They're damn good teams and with a bit of luck could even win a World Cup but they don't have that "swagger"...that sense of control when the team walks on the pitch! And I wish Mexico would stop running around like ants wasting energy keeping possession but doing nothing. That whole "let's have 5 players try to take the ball from the opposing player" is like Russian roulette. They get the ball...fine. But if the opposing player passes the ball down or across that's 5 Mexican players who are now in the wrong place. The play "panic football".

USA didn't wake up. It just put the real players--like Donovan and O'Brien in the game and took those orange cones off. :)

Sure buddy, keep thinking that way, we will see who's better the next time we meet. If it was women gymnastic, mexico will get 9.0s across the board for all the creativity and possession, but unfortunately it's soccer and you get zero, zip, zilch point (or a loss).

For Mexico, at the end of the day, all the possession without penetration is just masturbation. ;)

The USA will need to be careful when they clash with Bafana Bafana, should their paths meet...

    Congrats to S. Africa!
While Mexico played well, they missed shots left, right, and above.
It looks like they took it out on Guatemala though.
