    starting lineup
portero:Moisés Muñoz; centrales: Hugo Sánchez, Aarón Galindo y Carlos Salcido; laterales volantes: Mario Méndez (por derecha) y Jaime Lozano (por izquierda); medios: Héctor Altamirano, Pavel Pardo y Rafael García; adelante: Francisco Fonseca y Antonio Naelson.

kinda weird having Sinha as a forward. i would much rather have Sinha take Rafa Garcia's place, and put Rafa Marquez Lugo as the other forward alongside Kikin. my prediction: Mexico 2 - Ecuador 0

    If you're correct then,

Great to see Munoz as a starter, finally... we need to start finding some good back up keepers/successors to Oswaldo. And personally I think Munoz has the most potential out of all the options except perhaps Ochoa.

There is no need to have Pavel and Chiquis in there. Get them out and try out some younger central middies. Seriously what's the point of playing them? Especially Chiquis, he sucks.

I agree it'll be interesting to see how Zinha does as a deep striker, dunno, would like to see Iniguez try this role but anyway...

This game will be good to see Aaron Galindo's level away from Cris Azul

Nice goal by Kikin...almost scored another right away, Lozano almost scored too. Mexico picked it up at the end of the half

Good work by the Pumas players on the goal.

Zinha was flashy early on and just died. He's losing ALOT of balls.

I'm with Sabio; Pardo and Chiquis are a collective waste of space. Pavel is too slow and is losing a ton of balls in the midfield.

The backline seems out of place, but not shaky. A change of pace.

Marquez and Fonseca are working hard, but the balls aren't being put through as accurately as they'd prefer.

Both look good, but not great.

Plenty of fouls on Fonseca and Pardo (maybe his get out of jail free card for poor midfield control).

Ecuador attacks quick and dangerously on counterattacks but nothing concrete.

    Chiquis.

    Oh God.

The game is only on westcoast feed.

Mexico has had chances on lost balls from the Ecuadurian defense.

    The field is useless.

game over. Mexico 2 - Ecuador 1. Kikin was really awesome today. the guy was running around a lot trying to take the ball from opposing players and participating in a lot of plays. he showed great promise today and there's no doubt in my mind that he will continue to play like this. great debut for him.

He is very good but I never saw him before in Mexico games.

    Any background briefing?

yes, i think that pavel and chiquis are a go.

i dont think there is a substitute for oswaldo yet, though. ochoa is not nearly what oswaldo was at that age. and moises munoz has clearly fallen in performance. i liked the addition of kikin fonseca. i think having him and iniguez and galindo from pumas would be very good. i would like to see more of gonzalo medina too ,

check out my thread on who would you pick on the national team for 2006

he's been playing for pumas for almost two years. although he is not a native to that team. he came from the team La Piedad, from his home state of Guanajuato. His team played briefly in primera. but then was transformed into queretaro, he eventually was picked by pumas in 2002. at age 25, i think he is one of the most underrated players in the mexican league. he proved today he potential he has.

Do you guys (whoever doubted) see now that Fonseca is about 5,000 times more effective than Borgetti will ever be?

I was pretty tired watching the game so late but here what I thought...

Moisés Muñoz... A-... looked sure handed all night (other than some weird bounces) didn't have too much to do. Did allow that goal although the shot was perfect and probably no keeper could've stopped it.

Aarón Galindo...A... we saw his true level away from CA, and yes he's still really good.

Hugo Sánchez...B... played solid and steady

Carlos Salcido...B+... also solid and steady, we're pretty strong defensively at left back with him there, not a great attacking threat but can't have it all

Héctor Altamirano...B... showed some good stuff typical Pity performance good shooting, some good dribbles, but slow to get back and cover, a frustrating player for me always seems like he should do just a little bit better

(Daniel Osorno 84’)...not enough to judge, but has some speed still to relieve pressure and can put in good crosses

Jaime Lozano...A... Soild with what hes supposed to do on the left great long balls, good crosses, wicked volley late 1st half, nice

(Gonzalo Pineda 68’)...not enough to judge for this game

Pável Pardo...B-... Okay Pardo performance, lost some balls, but thats nothing new, still does some things really well like accurate long balls, and sometimes astute shorter passes.

(Fernando Salazar 46’)...B... Reasonable performance, gives us some size in the middle and takes no prisoners, a little more athletic than our other central middies too.

Rafael García...C-... I'm not sure what he does. He does some reasonable midrange passes but nothing you wouldn't expect from any professional player, nothing special here, rather slow, touch not that good

Antonio Naelson...B-... Showed nice quickness and trys to be inventive, but often it either just doesn't work, or he gets fouled hard. When it works its nice. He's pretty small for international midfield play and will come out worse for wear against most midfields we face, but he can add something when on his game, a creative spark.

(Mario Méndez 46’)...A... Mendez continues to impress me at right back

Rafael Márquez...C+/B-... He did okay showed some pace and willingness, but like in the olympics he is rarely in the right place at the right time, the opposite of Luis Garcia. He just doesn't seem to react well or something but it just seems he is never in the right place thats all I can say. I hope he improves cause he does have some potential.

(Fernando Arce 46’)...C... Arce continues not to impress me. Nothing special, very lightweight, not seleccion quality, Lavolpe must have a man crush on him

Francisco Fonseca...A... Awesome debut overall. GOLAZO. He did tire alot in the 2nd half but before that he was quite a threat, much more so than Borgetti ever will be from now on (to oooooold), had confidence, a bit of pace, he's 2 footed, has good size, wait we knew all this already, just Lavolpe finally gave him a chance to show it on El Tri, good for you Lavolpe

Even though they are both center forward types, I would salivate upon seeing a Fonseca - Santana front pairing, it could work and could be very effective, and very different from strikeforces Mexico has put on the field in recent years.

Instead of calling Fernando Arce and Chiquis Garcia he should call up Jair Garcia and Carlos Ochoa, I wouldn't them being subs instead of putting a weak Fernand Arce or a Osorno who probably wount do nothing but just make crosses.

Some one tell Sinha if he just naturalized to go to the WC, he better start showing why he was picked over a native born.

Fransico Fonseca, good start, 3 goals would of been a great start.

Fonseca's debut double gives Mexico win over Ecuador

NEW YORK, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Forward Francisco Fonseca scored twice on his debut as Mexico beat Ecuador 2-1 in a friendly at Giants Stadium on Wednesday.

Fonseca, who plays for Mexican champions UNAM, opened his account three minutes before halftime as he chested down Jaime Lozano's long pass forward and scored with a left-foot shot which went in off the post.

The 25-year-old was on target again one minute into the second half when he stooped to head home Fernando Arce's free kick.

Ecuador defender Renan Calle pulled one back direct from a free kick in the 80th minute.

It was Mexico's fifth successive win over Ecuador and their fourth by the same scoreline.
