Snip (see this thread for related player: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/uriel-lopez-to-chivas.2022662/):

Uriel Lopez and Daniel Rivera arrived just before 7 on this morning, and within minutes their shirts are soaked as the desert temperatures rise to 100 degrees. They are among a handful of goalkeepers trained under the watchful eye of professional player turned trainer, Carlos Serrato.

But neither of the two could be here training next week. You see, Lopez, 17, has already accepted an invite to forgo his senior year at Palm Desert High to join the developmental program with the acclaimed Chivas Mexican club in Guadalajara. Scouts could offer Rivera, 20, the same opportunity on Saturday.

    ...

Rivera, 20, didn’t play soccer during his final two years of high school. Because of poor grades, he transferred to Summit High, an alternative school in the valley, and began training with Serrato to make his way back to play for the Aztecs. But he eventually lost sight of that goal and gave up on school and the hopes of ever playing again for Palm Desert.

After almost a year, he went back to Serrato and asked him to train him again. Serrato had one condition: “Go back to school, graduate and then we’ll train.”

    He graduated in 2014.
