Hey guys I was hoping you guys could help me compile a list of players whoul could have gone to Europe? Players that had offers to go abroad and were held back by greedy team or personal choice
Not Mexican but.. Alex Aguinaga could've gone to countless European teams but was happy in Mexico and never left.
I could have gone last year cuz I had offers from these friends but instead I moved into a new place...I'm still a player though so maybe I'll try my luck this summer, possibly play the away team in some little-explored Baltic countrie. And that is the drunkest manner in which I can answer that question.
what about el gringo Castro someone told me he got an offer from a la liga team and by the way why do they call him el gringo or did i get that wrong.
I could have gone to the Paris Saint Germain try outs or whatever league camp..but i couldnt afford it, and now im too old to go.. cuz its from 8-16 years old i think...
That's why he's a legend. He loved Necaxa. Recently I remember Gringo Castro had an offer from Espanyol but america didn't let him go and Zinha was wanted by a couple of 2nd division Italian teams.
Ramon Ramirez (the injuries/directivos kept him from leaving) although I'm not sure which teams were interested in him. Daniel Osorno (i know it sounds ridiculous) was close to going to Milan when he was 17 or 18 but damn Atlas people didn't let him go because he was too young. Instead he was just wasted away in the Mexican League and had a couple good appearances with the NT and Atlas. Imagine what could have been if Milan had developed Osorno and adopted him into their system/style.Damn Mexican directivos are the biggest cack blockers of ANY league. Gringo Castro was wanted by Espanyol after the World Cup but again the Club America people wanted him to stay because they had some important tournaments coming up that season and in the end we didn't win shit and got knocked out of the league by the arch rival.
hey don't hate chompi. i am signed to nueva italia. a much bigger team than both. even though it's in a chela league. [QUOTEBarcelonaFan900]I could have gone to the Paris Saint Germain try outs or whatever league camp..but i couldnt afford it, and now im too old to go.. cuz its from 8-16 years old i think...[/QUOTE] tryouts and camps are different. and usually you wouldn't pay outrageous sums to tryout. odp charges $10 a tryout, but the politics there have been discussed. i'd been invited to several overseas camps(never a tryout), but each was about 4 or 5 thousand, and from what i could tell it was all spoiled rich kids, going because they had money, not talent. which explains why i'm still in chela league and llanero teams. i remember when chievo wanted cabrito, they had recently been promoted and were even in first place for a little. too bad he didn't go. AC offered jared peanuts after 2002, which he turned down. on a different note, pedro pineda was mistakenly bought by milan.
Miguel Zepeda had been real close to going to Osasuna in his prime. Luis Hernandez had a bunch of offers after France, the biggest being from Galatasaray. Ramon Ramirez was wanted by Udinese also after the WC. After Mexico had such a great performance in Mexico, to me it may have been the biggest waste ever the fact that only German Villa left. Almost every player could have made it in europe if they wanted. Luis Hernandez scored 4 goals and was at his highest point ever and yet he rather go to Tigres for the money and in the end do shit since not only his talent later decreased but he didn't win squat there either. What to say about Arellano and others.
Hermosillo played in Europe in Standard Liege of Belgium. Cardoso was supposedly wanted by Arsenal and Abundis by Feyenoord at the time that Toluca was at its prime.
Yeah all of those players mentioned could made the jump if it weren't for many of the European club's unwillingness to just buy the players outright. It was usually minnows in Spain pressing for a loan agreement and nothing else. Though out of all the players mentioned I seem to remember Ramon being the least interested in leaving almost to the point he disliked being discussed as a possible transfer sincehim and his family was very happy in Guadalajara.
To me the "el Cabrito" was the biggest waste ever. He should of left after 98 world cup. Infortunately we do not players like Cabrito!!
chievo seemed serious. but monterrey didn't let him go. i don't remember how much they offered, but i don't think it was much either.
no mames guey haha the ones i can remember right now are ramon ramirez and arrellano after the 98wc had lots of interest from european clubs and in the 02 wc athletico madrid wanted ramon morales but the chivas wanted to much money and i also think mercado had some interest from some italian clubs
