There's Mario García at Boyacá Chicó (COL), Rodolfo Espinoza at Universitario (PER), Rodrigo Prieto and Gerardo Torres at Caracas FC (VEN), and Octavio Colmenares at Universidad de Chile. I think that's got to be some kind of record for the amount of Mexicans in Libertadores for foreign clubs.

So far Chicó played and won against Aurora of Bolivia, I believe García didn't play. Colmenares is a reserve goalkeeper for U. de Chile and has not seen a single minute of play so far. I do think the other three will see significant playing time throughout the competition though.

Are any of those guys starters, or play considerable minutes coming off the bench?

    Re: Mexicans in Copa Libertadores

Colmenares is a reserve keeper, I don't expect him to play at all unless there is an injury to Pinto (U. de Chile's starting GK). The rest are either starters or play significant minutes off the bench.

García was a starter when Chicó won their Colombian league title, not sure why he didn't play yesterday.

Espinoza has been playing regularly for Universitario in their preseason.

Torres has been coming on as a sub regularly for Caracas and Prieto is an undisputed starter and scoring goals. Some on the mediotiempo forums have even gone as far as to call for Prieto to be on the national team.:rolleyes::D

Rodolfo Espinoza of Universitario started and played until the 79th minute of his team's 2-1 loss in Asunción to Libertad.

Oh and I once again forgot to add the [R] in the thread title, mods you know what to do.

Turns out he did play in Boyacá Chicó's 0-3 thrashing of Aurora last tuesday. García was even mentioned as a key player in the Chicó defence, good for him. :)

In other news Rodrigo Prieto is set to make his Libertadores debut when Caracas visits Everton of Chile.

I guess we'll finally get to see Prieto in action since some of the mediotiempo forum boys were making a big fuss about him. :D

I put the thread in 'Mexicans Abroad' for a reason. This particular thread is to discuss Mexican players who are playing for foreign clubs in Libertadores. :)

FYI Mosco, this is the legendary River goalkeeper Amadeo Carrizo.

The Cuenca keeper was Mexican born Ecuadorian Carlos Morán.

    Re: Mexicans in Copa Libertadores

Fito Espinoza (# 21) started the match for Universitario in which his team beat San Lorenzo of Argentina, 1-0.

Espinoza had a good game and nearly scored a nice goal for himself, hitting the post at the 42nd minute with a screamer from outside the box.

This article talks about the Mexican players in this edition of the Copa Libertadores. Turns out they did break the record for Mexicans with foreign clubs in this years Copa with the previous record being 4 in last year's Libertadores.

You know what would be cool if we could loan a player like Landin to an Argie team that has a good coach to teach Landin how to use his height I bet Landin would get called up to the seleccion all the time
