You want respect? Here's your respect.

Basically, the Mexican Fed isn't allowing any national teamers to be released for Copa Libertadores ahead of the qualifer versus the United States.

This is why I'm glad our home match with Mexico is at the END of the HEX. It will hopefully turn into an exhibition. I much more comfortable losing 3 points in the Azteca than I am heading into a must win home-match vs Mexico

not to say there is no respect, but that's perfectly logical.... We'd do the same if we had teams in Libertadores and had to play Mexico (or even teams like Panama or T&T) at home.....

This game isn't as important for Mexico WC qualifying as they say. What's really important about this game is that if the Mexicans lose it, the coach is going to be fired.

You know, I saw your smiley and all... but there might be something to this. Naturally, I'd kinda like events to play out in such a way that your hypothesis is tested.

As great of a rivalry as it is, Mugwamp is right. The US-Mexico games are about pride...either team can lose both games and still qualify as long as they win the rest of their home games and tie the rest of their away games.

it would take a major collapse for either mexico or usa NOT to be in the top 3...

and even being 4th gets you a play-off....

mexico looks to be less than ideal at the forward slot...

palencia seems a better fit against the usa than their other guys....

blanco and borghetti have mcbride disease...too old and past their prime...

although blanco as playmaker has possibilities, but that's what zinha's supposed to do..

IMHO the USA is in a no-lose situation. I doubt any other team will beat Mexico at the Azteca so that even if the USA lose they won't lose ground against the rest of the WC pretenders. However the pressure on Mexico to win aganist the USA must be immense - as noted above - and thus they might choke.... :D

Exactly! This is why I cannot see us throwing all our dogs into this fight with a home qualifier just three days later against a team that WILL need points off us to make it to Germany. We can get a point or three out of it, but trading points with Mexico won't hurt either of us in the long run.

well, costa rica does have the scalp, but their current incarnation doesn't look like it'll be capable....

big question is which manager gets fired first....

lavolpe or the colombian who coaches costa rica....

anyone see any betting odds on the azteca match yet??

    This is absolutely 100% true.

The USA/MEX and MEX/USA games really don't matter wrt qualifying for Germany 2006. This Hexagonal is the weakest I've ever seen. Mexico and the United States are both going to qualify with games to spare.

The games are important psychologically and status-wise. Replacing Honduras and Jamaica with Guatemala and Panama has weakened this hexagonal. Not to mention the fact that Costa Rica is struggling and Trinidad still sucks. Throw in the exta 1/2 spot for CONCACAF, and Mexico and the USA are shoe-ins.

    mcbride disease....

a player past his prime, limited in what he can do...

I suspect eddie johnson paired with a more mobile forward...aka josh wolff would give mexico more trouble than mcbride the statue...

    mcbride and borghetti are brothers.

He should be fired for smoking during matches on the sideline!
A man that can not control his addiction should not control a national team.
    And he's ugly! :)
