I've got no link other then twitter feeds, but apparently five Mexican players have tested positive for Clembuterol. Sinha, Dueñas, Hobbit, Maza, and Ochoa.

They'll continue in the Gold Cup with 17 players.

DAAAAAAYYYYYUUUUUMMMMMMM!!!! Maza and Ochoa seem like the biggest losses to me. Is Duenas a starter?

Sucks that sinha got busted, that means Gio will probably play a lot more.

    No.

Also, Sinha not playing is a good thing for Mexico imo. Losing Ochoa (especially after already losing Corona) and especially Maza is definitely a blow.

Mexicans are saying that Rafa will take Maza's place. A downgrade for sure.

Why aren't they disqualified from the tourney for using doped players? At the very least, they should forfeit their last game.

Even if they remain in, they are reduced to 15 field players and have games on 6/9, 6/12, 6/18 and 6/22 before facing us on 6/25. That's going to be painful.

Disqualifying them for the whole tournament wouldn't seem fair, but I can certainly see having to forfeit their win vs. El Salvador because of this.

Also it should be noted that this was internal and not sanctioned testing by CONCACAF apparently...at least that's according to one Mexican poster.

OK, so now they have 14 field players left. If they are forced to forfeit their first game, I can see them coming in third in their group and us getting them in the quarters. Which would be awesome since I will be there for that game!

In searching for something in English there seems to a pattern developing here with Mexico and doping.

Re: Steroids are bad for you, mmmkay?

    From Wikipedia:

"Clenbuterol is a β2 agonist with some structural and pharmacological similarities to epinephrine and salbutamol, but its effects are more potent and longer-lasting as a stimulant and thermogenic drug. It causes an increase in aerobic capacity, central nervous system stimulation, and an increase in blood pressure and oxygen transportation. It increases the rate at which body fat is metabolized, simultaneously increasing the body's BMR. It is commonly used for smooth muscle relaxant properties."

Article notes is has been used in doping. On the other hand, it's also used in animals, so food contamination could be a possible reason. Be interesting to see how this comes out.

Tainted chicken is probably the one excuse that MLB players never used during baseball's PED era.

By my count they are left with exactly four defenders. Ouch.

For 6 players to test positive this smells of being a food generated issue

The Clenbuterol in beef issue was recently raised in April 2011 at the Pan Am Games - http://in.reuters.com/article/2011/04/14/idINIndia-56345620110414

But Alberto Cantador was recently cleared and allowed to start racing again after his doping ban

Re: Steroids are bad for you, mmmkay?

ok i just found out some info, apparently the tests were done may 21st, before the gold cup so since it was out of competition by rule they dont have to forfeit the game
    so there we go.

I could definetely see that being the case, but you'd think the Mexican FA would have taken that into consideration prior to making this all public and kicking players off the squad.

In Mexico clambuterol + ambroxol are legal for a chest congestion. I've used and it works wonders in clearing you up. I also had weird results went I took a test a few days after.

Clambuterol is used to fatten up chickens and livestock. The failed test was out of competition in May 20-21.

6 players and a keeper. A keeper on roids? Doesn't make sense for Ochoa to risk tainting his career right when he's 90% signed with PSG.

Have you seen hobbit and zinha? two skinny midgets, I don't believe they take roids. Hobbit has the body of a 9 year old.

Yep, and to add to this, it is especially high in poorer countries (no offense) like Mexico. Looks to be food related. I'm sure things will get cleared up in the next few days. Definitely big news though. Title change is in order.

Holy crap. This is very unfortunate... Mexico's roster is decimated, and this isn't good for the tournament.

With 4 defenders only, not to mention the distraction of this mess, I wouldn't favor Mexico reaching the final unless this whole mess gets cleared up very quickly. And I'm not going to dance on the grave. I love it when we beat the crap out of them, but not like this...

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a food issue, but who knows. Sinha doesn't exactly strike me as the 'roided-up stereotype.

This. Why would they have dismissed them if they weren't absolutely sure that the results were correct?
