I know its not priority, but still deserves a thread.

I have not really kept up with this, but America, Necaxa, & Morelia have advanced tot eh quarters. Toluca match against West Connection is next week. They play in T&T and hold a 3-2 marker..

    Necaxa-LA Galaxy

    Club America-Alajuelense

    Morelia-Columbus Crew

    Municipal-Toluca/WConnection

If Toluca advances and all Mexican clubs advace into the semis... The champs will face one another and the runners up will face one another...

    Toluca-America

    Morela-Necaxa

I was hoping it could be the other way around... so America and Toluca face each other.

Who here think the mexican clubs will advance?

I dont know... it all depends if they use reserves teams or thier 2nd division teams..

i dont really care about this cup but whatever...
im glad the mexie (reserve) teams have gone through.. gives experience to the young
    they'll advance...

I'm not sure which team would win between Toluca and America.. but im guessing Toluca

the final will prolly be Morelia vs Toluca

if the teams do reach the finals... they might as well use thier star players...

But i doubt America will use them...They are being dismantled. Today, the the chilean FA put a demand because America didnt want to release Rojas. But America will have to release him... Rojas will be away for a while... 2 firendlies against Peru...And on top of the 5-6 players that LAvolpe keeps calling....

i was just looking at the calendars

The quarterfinals will be played on these dates:

    April 9 & April 16

The semifinals will be played on these dates:

    April 30 & May 17

    finals

    ???????

April 9th, 16th, & 30th fall on a wednesday... but MAy 17th falls on a saturday... The MFL regular season ends that weekend. The calendar indicates that Jornada 19 will be played on May17/18. But I think its a typo... since the last week of the regular season is usually played on either a saturday or sunday and all teams play each other and each game starts at the same time.

Mexican Clubs should take this Cup more serious. Sure it sucks but it would suck more without the MFL clubs which are the ones giving this competition any credibility. That said, the importance given to this Cup by the MFL clubs will depend on their league situation at the time. If the clubs are qualified to the play offs then they can take their chances and play with their full squads, if they are fighting for a play off spot then they will be sending the Reserves..

I think teams that haven't done squat should take it more seriously. Morelia and America have already done well in Libertadores. But what has Toluca done internationally? Squat. I still remember when Alajuela knocked them out in the 1st round with Abundis and Cardozo on the field. Olimpia also knocked them out in the 1st round. They should at least do something internationally instead of wasting chance after chance.

The date for the second leg I've seen is 5/14, a Wednesday, so there should be no conflict with the weekend. The MLS season starts in two weeks, so unlike the first round, there should be no games on weekends from now on.

The final is scheduled "August or September". This is to get around all the national team stuff in the summer, as well as letting the final two clubs schedule it around league games, Open Cup, or Pre-pre-Lib, I suppose.

    regardless....

I dont think that a team will sacrifice thier players knowing that the last game of the season is on the following weekend...

We are already in week 12 and not one team is eliminated. I believe last season, by week 12..there were already 2 teams with out a mathimatical possibility of qualifying to the playoffs..

Its a tight race and I dont think clubs will jeapoardize...afterall... MFL clubs get more money for winning thier own championship than the TFC championship. And the winner of this season will play Toluca for the COMEX CUP...the FMF want to reinstate the Cup championships in Mexico..

    OOooh yeah!!

Of course this redundant, but maybe if a little more effort was made to air the games and some loot to the pile.

I have a theory why the a.s.s rapings took place last night. Columbus getting man handled 6-0 and Galaxy being forced to toss some cookies.

Just hear me out before you ridicule me...

Just look at those pictures and look at the color of each MLS jersey. They happen to be shades of Yellow. Who in the MFL wears yellow? CLub America.. the most hated team.

Its like Pablo and the dog thoery... you show him yellow, and they turn into rabid dogs who want to kill.

Also, Necaxa was mad that a friendly across town drew more fans then them... my guesstimation about 45K more fans.

Well, after Wednesday's game, I think it was Navia that got interviewed and he said something about expecting the game to be much tougher than it was.

Also, I seem to recal Pavel Pardo mentioning that he wasn't much interested in playing these games.

I don't think the players think it's a breeze, it's just that they would rather not play in a meaningless cup with no real money to be made and no real exposure. Also, the chances of getting injured are great given the lousy stadiums they are sometimes forced to play in.

Just take last year's tourney, Pachuca won. Has it gotten them much recognition ? Nope. Just curious - if 100 MLS fans were polled, how many would know who won the tournament last year ?

  13. I bet that more than 20 would say LA Galaxy or Dc United.

It's good to see that America will host the game at the Estadio Azteca. It seems America is taking the tournament a tad more serious this year. Any mention of why they decided to have it there? Did the cotton bowl game draw poorly?

Also, is there any kind of "revenge" feeling amongst America because of last year's 1st round exit against LD Alajuelense?

Not that its taking the tournament serious... its just the Lapuente doesnt want to travel and risk the players anymore than they have to. The team is currently 2nd place in the group and they need more points.

i suspect that Lapuente will mix up the lineup and give some of his younger players more playing time.

The real reason is and speaking from the latest attendance figures:

If America gets handed a can of woop ass, is more likely that noone will be at the Azteca to see it. :D

  20. If Puebla can woop his ass, who doesn't?
