FIRST EVER “METROSTARS WEEK” KICKS OFF APRIL 5
MetroStars vs. Columbus Crew on April 12 at Giants Stadium Caps Off Events Through Area

The first ever “MetroStars Week” will kick off the MLS season on Saturday, April 5 leading up to the team’s season opener on Saturday, April 12 against the defending Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champion Columbus Crew at Giants Stadium, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET. The festivities will be the first of its kind for the MetroStars and its fans. The organization is teaming up with two local establishments - Nevada Smiths (NY) and Rosie Radigans (NJ) - to celebrate the start of a new season and tradition.

“We are so excited to present MetroStars Week,” said MetroStars Executive VP John Guppy. “We want to give the fans of the area a sense of excitement leading up to our season opener. We feel we have put together a fun week of events to allow the fans to get to know the 2003 MetroStars.”

“MetroStars Week” gets rolling with a ALL AGES viewing party April 5 at Nevada Smiths - located at 74 Third Avenue between 11th and 12th streets in New York City - for the anticipated 2003 MLS season opener featuring Columbus vs. the defending MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy from Crew Stadium, live on ABC at 4:00 p.m. ET. The game is a rematch of the Open Cup Final played at the same venue, which saw the Crew thump the defending Open Cup champ 1-0 last October. MetroStars goalkeeper Tim Howard, forward Clint Mathis, and defender Eddie Pope will be in attendance along with staff. Events will start at 3:00 p.m. ET and ALL AGES ARE admitted. For more information please visit www.metrostars.com and www.nevadasmiths.net.

“Nevada Smiths is a prime site for soccer fans watching games from around the world,” said Guppy. “The bar was a fantastic place for fans watching the World Cup last summer in the early hours of the morning. They were able to see Eddie and Clint lead the U.S. to the quarterfinals and will now be able to see them in person. We are looking forward to working with them on this event and during the season for all MetroStars games.”

The MetroStars will also be presenting its annual Meet the Team Day on Sunday, April 6 at the Giants Stadium Bubble from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. ET. The event is open to MetroMembers only and will give fans a chance to meet the 2003 MetroStars. For more information on this event please call 1-888-4METROTIX.

Rosie Radigans - located at 10 Exchange Place on the Lobby Floor in Jersey City, NJ - is the site for the first “After Work Season Kickoff Celebration” for the MetroStars on Wednesday, April 9 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. ET. Festivities include special soccer themed drinks, Budweiser & Bud Light specials, plus complimentary buffet. Throughout the night MetroStars players will act as guest bartenders. Please RSVP by April 4 at http://www.metrostars.com/fanzone/kickoff.htm or by calling MetroStars Account Manager Tim Sinclair at (201) 583-7015.

The entire week culminates with the MetroStars taking on the Crew on April 12 at Giants Stadium, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET. For ticket information, please call 1-888-4METROTIX.

sounds very exciting and fun. Maybe someday we could have such establishments in the N-W NJ as well. There is nothing out here. I wonder if there will be something on this lines when the Metros move with their training facilities to Rt 23 . Hope so.
