Metros win 1-0 in Bradeton, Floriday yesterday.

DC United had far more of their regular starters than the Metros did. Fortunately, Kovalenko did not break anyone's leg:

    MetroStars Lineup: GK – Wells; D – Leitch, Parke, Regan (Steven 40’), Hayes; M – Torres (LeBlanc 31’), Bradley (Jesse 45’), David (Jean-Louie 31’), Bartolomeu (Dolidze 31’); F – Ofori-Quaye (Doe 45’), Occean (Nugent 40’).

D.C. United Lineup: GK – Perkins (Baumstark 31’); D – Prideaux, Petke (Stokes 31’), Nelsen, Namoff; M – Adu (Carroll 31’), Stewart, Kovalenko, Olsen; F – Gros, Cerritos (Moreno 31’).

    Scoring Summary
    MetroStars – Ofori-Quaye (Bradley, Leitch) 19’

Steven, Jesse, and Jean-Louie? Looks like we were pulling guys out of the pick-up game on the next field and didn't even get their last names....and STILL we beat DC.

Let me do a google search on 'Steven' and see what I find.

    Bradenton >> La Manga

Is Guevara even in camp? How 'bout Woly?

Presumably we'll be at "full strength" for this La Manga cup initiative in Spain. Do we know if other MLS teams are participating?

I was hoping he would have a hat trick, so that we could ask for something outrageous for compensation, like a 1st round pick.

He played the entire 2nd half, and the reports from the DC United camp are that he played well.

wolyniec was minutes away with the nats (as were jonny and pope)...i'm assuming they left a couple days ago, but wolyniec wasnt brought to the Netherlands friendly, which is probably why he's shown in one of the pictures of this scrimmage...as for Amado, i could've sworn he and lil Bradley reportedly played really well together in one of the prior friendlies..

I was hoping we sent in one of our scrubs that had no chance of making the team in for a nice "torpedo to the knees tackle" on the kid. I mean that guy has nothing to lose and everything to gain, Metros couldve paid him a few bucks and put a bounty on his head, ala NFL defenders(according to LT).

That's not that far off from the Scum's projected starting lineup, so they must be planning mass suicide over on the DC boards.

Yeah I know. Pope and Walker have been over there for a few days now so Woly ought to have joined the group. You're right about Guevara. He played in the KC scrimmage.

Man, I'm thrilled that we're able to hear word of some actual ACTION from the Metros. And while I recognise that a report from the club's website puts forth a biased account, it still feels good to read things like "The MetroStars took to the attack from the outset of the contest" and "The attacking nature paid off for the Metros"

There seems to be momentum building down there in Florida.

Here's to a great season folks! Looking forward to wasting valuable time with the rest of you here on the boards.

Have a gander at the Unitedmania match report, which you can get to through the DC boards. They may have lost the game, but did you know that all their field players can dribble like Garrincha? On the other hand, the Metros' goal seems to have been the only time the ball moved the wrong way down the field in an entire sixty minute period, and perhaps the goal was only scored because the Metros confused the goalkeeper by shooting with two soccer balls at once-- he made a great save but the second shot beat him.

It's no wonder DC fans have a total disconnect between their most basic expectations and the way their team actually plays. You would think it would occur to John Dyson that he's doing a disservice in distorting the performance of the team to its fans. To read Dyson, you would think that tickets for DC's appearance in the Copa Libertadores final are already on sale. When they're not "dancing down the touchline," DC players are nutmegging and "screwing defenders into the ground." By contrast, the omission of any description of the Metros on-the-ball play might make you think we're lining up eleven stiff-legged, stiff-armed Frankensteins.

Then we win 1-0 and all of those "hate with a great hating" Monty Python-watching thumbsuckers can't figure it out.

Right. Cause we'd never waste valuable time here if the team lost.

Amado played in the scrimmage on saturday against KC along side little Bradley. Seems like Bradley is holding up well playing with grown men.

No man see, there was a period in there. Those are separate statements. The season (good or bad) and the wasting of time are mutually exclusive though both – come to think of it – inevitable.

Fascinating. I wonder how Jolley and Co. will fare vs. a Champions League caliber side?

Will Bradley be the savior of US Soccer?!? He had one assists compared to none coming from Adu!

Man, Bradley's kid looks like a player if he can ALREADY handle duties in the middle, albeit scrimmages. I mean, Convey only recently decisively proved that he is ready for the center. I'm not saying lil' Bradley is a savior of some sort, but he could be a valuable commodity.

It seems to me that the team is filled with capable players. What we need more are stand outs, and that will obviously come once Bradley is finished bringing in players to the team by the start of the season.

You mean like, crying when he can't get past Pope, or whine because Leitch pushed him off the ball?

Maybe little Bradley will give Adu a run for ROY honors? Let's hope so.

It's great that Michael Bradley has had a couple good scrimmages, but if he's doing anything other than playing in our early USOC games this season, then we've probably got problems. I don't think Bob is planning on him being anything like an essential part of the team in 2004.
