These guys are exciting! Metros that is... Taylor and Glen and Gaven keep earning me points, i love it.
As usuall C.J. Brown, Jim Curtin & Evan Whitfield continues the thugery when ever Metro get a goal up on them. Can't they just play football? Or wait I forgot this is how they play football. A BUNCH OF GOONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still Great goal by Fabian "F.T." Taylor. A turnaround smack inside the near post. BRILLIENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Walker is looking big and brave tonight. Got watch that counter attack though. The only time Chicago look dangerous.
yes,it's very dissapointing to lose an advantage against the fire which means we beat them only ONCE it last 16
I thought Regan was solid in the back. As for Whitfield, Curtin, and Brown, they were sure playing football. Didn't look like soccer to me.
Walker had 3 outstanding saves in the first half keeping us in the game The team played great soccer for 45 minutes, Second half they looked disorganized , tired . The midfielders played way to far away from the forwards and to close and to much in defense. In the end either team could have won it, so all in all it was a fair result, but we need to play aggresive for 90 minutes, not just a half.
Here's the difference between the Fire and the MetroStars right now..... If you didn't see the game and only looked at the stat sheet, you'd see the Metros had 3 times as many fouls and think they played a more physical game, when in fact the opposite was true. When the Metros commit an infraction, it's usually a touch foul where a player bounces right back up. Meanwhile, Curtin nearly decapitates Taylor twice and Armas and Brown both bulldozed Glen. The entire Fire backline could play fullback for the Chicago Bears. All "professional" fouls and it was no coincidence that both Taylor and Glen were ineffective after those plays. The Positives The backline was much more solid after giving up 8 goals the previous two matches. Boneu appeared more confident. The midfield did a better job of coming back as Beasley was relatively quiet (for him anyway). The Metros dominated the opening 25 minutes of the match controlling the ball and making some nice runs down the left wing. The team will only get better as Taylor and Glen get used to playing together, since neither had the benefit of pre-season training. The Negatives Not very encouraging when Lisi is your main scoring threat in the 2nd half. Vaca again disappeared in the 2nd half. Wolyniec and Galvan Rey provided no spark off the bench. Metros still having trouble winning at home.
This was surely a game of two halves. First half Metros looked sharp and together, second they looked tired and confused. The defense played well and I hope that, for at lest one week, the "we hate T-Bone" threads and posts will stop. Taylor and Glen were sweet. Lots of lovely ball control. My biggest complaint however was that after Galvan-Rey came on he made a number of beautiful runs off the ball but stood waiting for passes that never came. Perhaps Bob can introduce him to the midfield during practice so that they can learn it is perfectly fine to pass the ball into the guy with the headband. On the positive however, and there were lots ofpositives, we did notlose to Chicago. While normally that would not be a cause for celebration, given recent history this was big. Secondly, after last weeks goal explosion, our defense held steady. Third, after the muggings by Chicago none of our guys lost their cool to suffer silly yellows (well they mostly kept their cool). Off the field I have to note that from where I was sitting (Section 133 tonight) the crowd seemed more involved in the game then I have seen in a long time. Lots of noise, some kids repeatedly trying to start chants. I don't know what the attendance was but it looked good to me. Nice game. Could have been better but it is progress not perfection.
Obviously the goal was Regan's fault since he lost track of Razov, but considering he didn't play a single minute before today, I thought he did real well especially in the first half. Ralph and Razov are arguably the best combo in MLS right now, so giving up one goal against these guys isn't anything to be ashamed of. Regan did a nice job of reading plays and interecepting some passes, keeping Razov and Mapp pretty quiet in the opening half. Also, I thought he made some nice runs down the wing. His pass to Taylor on the left flank almost created a goal.
i dont understand why Regan get to play over DiGi. Well atleast not Kenny who by now should know that Razov always goes left
This was a really touch game to let sink in. The Metros had a great number of scoring chances. Had it been last week, a few of those long balls may have gone in. Walker had possibly his best night of the year tonight. He was 110% more focused tonight than last week. T-Bone also had his best game of the year. Regan did great for a guy who hasn't played at all this year. He almost had an assist on that great cross to Lisi. Glen and Taylor were great as usual. Taylor's goal is definately a goal of the week nominee. Here's Metro Empire's recap: http://206.21.217.87/metroindex.cfm?page=ARTICLE&show=80 I also agree that Chicago played ugly and unfairly. C.J. Brown and Curtin did all they wanted with Glen and Taylor. Everytime they had the ball they would be clobbered. Geez, if you unhappy with the score, take the dude to sckool, not to the ground. Take him on and show him that your better. Here's a tip: watch MJ. Trash talk to him and he'll answer by dunking on you. It's just dumb. Playing Chicago is an automatic loss. They can foul all they want and not have a guy red carded. Curtin jumped on top of Taylor and had him hurt for a few minutes. No card shown.
Hey - if the ref 'aint gonna call it. Why not. It's not their fault the Metros are a sheer finesse team and vulnerable to getting bitch-slapped. As long as the ref lets them get away with it, do it until you get are card. Joyously and viciously. Ziadie was hurt. Didn't think Regan played poorly, but he is not good going forward. Metro 'aint winning jack with the current team. Not in MLS. They need one goon to lay the wood on someone.
Two things that I noticed watching the match from opposite sides of the field is one, although much better than last year, the team still struggles with width. Vaca can provide bursts of speed, but his size limits his abiliy to fight off defenders. Gaven doesn't have seperation speed and he tends to hold on to the ball a bit too long, often dribbiling himself into a corner. I'd like to see him get rid of the ball quicker. Galvan-Rey...I can't tell if it's his play off the ball or that other players just don't look for him-or maybe it's related to the first point, in that the team goes through the center via Guevara to such an extent that they are in a groove of sorts. Either way, he just was just left to drift out on the left. I do like the way Guevara-Taylor-Glen play. This looks like a major upside that will get better and better. Very nice to watch.
Sometimes, I think people just want to take the "we have no quality flank play" theme and just run with it. I saw Vaca put two balls right on Mark Lisi's head last night that should have been goals. I saw Chris Leitch put a cross onto Amado's chest that very well could've been a goal. I saw Gaven getting down the left side and creating problems for Chicago. We had plenty of width. The difference between first half and second last night is that in the first half, our midfield created the turnovers, in the second half, their midfield created the turnovers. A draw was fair and just for this game. It stinks that we can't get over the hump against Chicago, but I have faith that this team is going to get stronger as it becomes more familiar with each other. As for all the Galvan-Rey bashers, give me a break. In his two starts, he was dangerous on a number of occasions, last night, no one passed him the ball. Cornell Glen had too quiet a game.
Maybe because I was exhausted, or slightly drunk watching the game at the stadium, but I don't have much to say about the game. Taylor and Glen I think can be really good. Maybe they need to pace themselves a bit better? One thing I didn't like was when Glen and Vaca were subbed out, they went right to the bench without acknowledging the player coming in. Taylor, who was cramped up, also went straight to the bench, but he at least acknowledged Wolyniec. Segroves "humor" actually works on some of the rubes on other boards.
I don't think the posters (at least on this thread) are bashing Galvan-Rey. Just stating (and I think accuratly) that he's not working well with the team right now (which you also seem to feel is true). He does seem to make good off the ball runs, and pulls defenders with him often, but the rest of the team just can't seem to find him. Hopefully that will change and he'll provide more offence to the team. He's a diffenrent type of forward from Glen, Taylor and Woly (similar in type to Magee).
It is nice to have forwards in the line up that are keeping a player with a resume like Galvan Rey's off the pitch.
I think Galvan Rey's problem is that he's coming off of the bench. He played great in his starts, but hasn't played as well as a substitute. Same with Woly. Vaca and Glen should habe stayed in the game I think. Both were playing well, so why change it? I agree Tom with what you said. If the ref doesn't call it, continue doing so. But how much longer will the Metros be literally pushed around by the Fire? We really need a Hernandez or a Petke on this team. What a difference it is without them.
Hey, I cant believe I am saying this, for I appreciate flair players, but I believe Bob should give the Magee-Woleynic partnership more of a chance. They may not be preatty to watch, but Woly is a fighter and gives 150% everytime he pulls on the shirt. He puts himself in goalscoring position, regardless of the physical harm that may come to him (see his recent diving header goal), and I feel that makes all the difference in the world. He may not be as technically proficient or as fast as some of our "bigger names", but the guy is a proven commodity, and he should be on the field.
just want to comment, because i continue to see people look at the closest player to the ball before it goes in the net, and blame that player for the goal...the goal was not necessarily, "obviously" Regan's fault...Leitch has been far better about not getting caught out of position than Ziadie has this season, but he did on the goal and DMB took full advantage of it and had a free run in from the wing...Pope also looked like he could've defended better, and yes, Regan could've done better as well on the final part of the play, but a lot fans really need to be a little more intuitive and intelligent about analyzing plays and even games...also, i like Leitch...though not the ideal starting defender, overall he is typically steady and capable...however, i would rip Ziadie apart for it and i watched him do it a few times yesterday...as a wingback, you first should really pick your spots if you feel you can really contribute to an attacking play, ESPECIALLY against Mapp or DMB...Leitch made a few runs, and would slowly trot back to his position while the game was going on...if you're too tired to get back, then don't make it in the first place...again, our attack is strong enough that i care far more for our wingbacks to primarily defend, and if it means they do not contribute too much to the attack, so be it, but Pope and Bonseu can not continue to be left out on an island, so Leitch, Ziadie, etc can go to the opposing 18 on a play that rarely results in a goal...on that note, i think Regan did a fair job of tackling, as well as wisely picking when to push up, and sprinting his ass back if he did...given our options right now, i'd love to see Regan get another start..
Just saw the highlights on the MLS Wrap and I must say Taylor's boot-praising goal celebration was great!!!! gp
