Argh. Crappy way to give up a goal in the 90th. I think a draw was deserved. We had chances but not many that actually had a chance at goal.

Not a very exciting game. The team needs more offensive creativity. Defense was solid except for the goal. That seems like an oxymoron. Oh well, it's only one game.

    Moreno

What in the world was with Moreno. I swear he is possesed with the laziness of Mama and the lose-the-ball skills of Villegas. I was hoping they would pull him. I'm very disapointed in his play. He needs to get it together or get off the field.

Actually the reason I am so disappointed is that I brought 2 potential fans to the game, and we pretty much LOST a scoreless draw, which is as bad as it gets if you want to recruit fans.

We desperately need a creative midfielder. Moreno seemed out of sync all game, many times tripping over the ball. Magee shouldnt be starting, he needs more seasoning before he's ready to play. Defensively, I think we'll be solid. I was very impressed with Clark he looks like he'll be a great player. Digiamarino has great speed and looks like a good find. If we can get the Honduran midfielder playing behind Mathis and Moreno I think we could be dangerous on offense. Overall, this team just needs more games to play with each other and gel.

it's tough, i already posted...i brought one guy who's never been and he couldn't wait to get out, by the second half, i wasnt paying attention, i was prayin for a positive result...as for first impressions, it's my season not being a season ticket holder, from where i was (section 134), ESC was impressive in being loud a lot of times, good stuff from you guys...i don't like richie williams, but the guy definitely looked good tonight...i do like jaime moreno, and he looked awful...magee looked alright, but it's tough to start 3 rookies in the first game (in bob we trust!!)...this would've been a lot easier to swallow had it been a draw...

Didn't expect much with all the new players in the first game. Defensive organization was good. Offensive flow was not. There was effort. I remain optimistic.

I don't blame Moreno as much as I do the midfield. The midfield was absolutely non-existant. LeBlanc was totally clueless the WHOLE night. He would consistently bring the ball through traffic in the middle and lose it. Clark did all right, but he held the ball too much. Mathis was nothing special tonight besides his one shot that forced a save out of Bush. Williams was probably the only one who played halfway decent. Magee was a complete waste. He seemed lost the whole time. I think the reason some people may place the blame on Moreno is that he was forced back into midfield to try and pick up the ball since he wasn't getting any service, and subsequently lost the ball trying to do it all by himself since there was no one else around to help. Another thing that really pissed me off was that Digiamarino and Ziadie were playing defense. I KNOW Ziadie would have been a better choice in LeBlanc's position, and I know that Digiamarino is more of a midfield player than a defender. We should be playing more of a 3-5-2 rather than a 4-4-2. Digiamarino and Ziadie would be the two outside mids making constant forward runs, which was one thing that we were missing. I don't think we had more than 5 or 6 cross opportunities, and Ziadie and Digiamarino never ventured up the sidelines to make those crosses count.

Overall, I left quite pissed........and not very optimistic about this year. Why is it that we have to change our whole team every year!?!? We only have six players left from last year....quite sad. Let's hope Bob gets his damn act together, and that Guevara will have some kind of impact.

How incredibly frustrating. I know alot of people were p.o.'d at Moreno, but I was impressed by his control, that nutmeg was sweet. But did he take a single shot at goal? Clark was especially clever at times. Pope did a good job of shutting down MacBride. Magee looked completely overwhelmed.

They just didn't look like they knew what one another would do, especially in terms of applying offensive pressure.

I thought Williams played a solid match, until that ill-fated clear to the touchline. Why oh why didn't he clear upfield???

That last home 2002 win was in the 90th, and gave such a sense of jubilation. This was a powerful reminder of that sense of deflation at the very first home opener, wasn't it?

New logo, new tradition. Same result.

Well, I'll certainly give Bob some time - it looks like they need all they can get.

Tim Howard - very, very good... man of the match.
Craig Ziadie - good on defense, terrible on ofense.
Eddie Pope - solid... really glad we have him... he even went up with control on the ball.
Steve Jolley - solid as well.
Jacob LeBlanc - hardly showed up.
Ricardo Clark - very promising... love to him him on the team.
Clint Mathis - SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING IN MIDFIELD!!!!!!!
Richie Williams - did his job well.
Joey DiGiamarino - quick but didn't contribute as much as I would have liked.
Mike Magee - needs a lot of work!!
John Wolyniec - to little minutes to judge.
Jaime Moreno - very good skills but tends to go to the wings way too much.

The game was such a drab affair it made the 1990 world cup final seem good.

This game was not a good result, but they are better than last year already and they will be very good by around July. Yes, you heard it here first!

That's weird, the guys on Radio Wado made it feel like Magee, Mathis, and Moreno were having a good game.

Since Mathis is better at the forward positon, how about having Moreno as the attacking midfielder?

Losing by one goal to one of the favorites isn't too bad for a team that only has six players from the previous season; especially because the Crew played the night before. I wouldn't be too worried. Guevara is coming this week, and Mathis is still getting back to 100% fitness.

Umm...sorry man, the crew didn't play the night before, they played wed. Also this was their 3rd game in 7 days, they shoulda been tired as hell and they still won, go figure.

That said, you guys kicked the ************ outta martino tonite and shut down Buddle, which was impresive. I was at the game and was ecstatic to get 3 points outta it after seeing a draw for 90 minutes. As for ESC i didn't here them at all.

Also, Mathis seemed to do more "refereeing" than playing. Douchebag.

I don't understand. This time last year every one of our guys just couldn't wait to get forward with the ball. A few bright sparks this time around, but no consistent attacking style at all, to my mind.

And what exactly is Mathis is doing in midfield?

The Metros just can't be allowed to play for the draw, for the sole reason that they don't know how.

    Midwest, the real one.
Some thoughts from a neutral observer(me):

    Howard is an animal.

Looks like Clark had free reign of midfield, and looked very good for a rookie debutant.

Moreno looked pretty good, but was too far from goal to make anything happen. Did hold the ball a little too much sometimes.

Forwards and a-mids were not in synch.

Mathis is not a midfielder. Body at 85-90%. Mouth at 100%.

    Re: Moreno

i think you saw a DC game from last season, because Moreno split there defense up more than a few times, yes he lost the ball, but who doesnt ya retard, when he split the D he split 2 or 3 players at a time too. He was double teamedalmost the whole night, give the guy a break. if you wanna point fingers, point them at Magee, he couldnt finish anything at all, he couldnt even get more than 4 touches on the ball when he tried. but overall, we played good as a team i think,

Moreno had a bad game? i saw it on TV and Moreno looked pretty good. Couple of nice moves, a few good passes.

Same with Mathis, Digi, Pope and Jolley. Wolyniac was OK. Underwhelmed by Clark and Leblanc. Disturbed that Columbus went to three strikers and we didn't. If Ziadie has to play defense, and I guess by now it's what he does, then he should play as an attacking wingback, same as Digi. Leblanc was in a defennsive role too, hopefully Guevara will replace him in central in a field general type role, generating more offense.

I would prefer Mathis as a forward, but if he has to be in the midfield then offensive winger is a pretty good compromise. He hustled today, but he's way out of line with the dissent. Figured after last year he'd have learned his lesson.

Overall Metros looked promising, but you could tell the players weren't quite meshing yet. If Guevara's all he's supposed to be, they're going to be dangerous.

    ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz.

What a boring match. People started to leave at around the 82nd minute mark. There was nothing to cheer about. It was about as exciting as watching grass (or FieldTurf) grow.

Clint's still barking at the refs for the whole game. Shut up and play. The midfield killed them tonight. They're gonna need more than Guevara. It would have been great to have had Andy Williams on that right wing instead of LeBlanc.

Seems like everytime Magee or Moreno had the ball, they would be swarmed by 4 defenders and not a single MetroStar within a 10 mile radius. It didn't help that Moreno would try to dribble by the whole team.

That's the problem I had with all of the moves to bring in the youngsters. By the time these guys are ready to help next season, Clint will be gone, Moreno and Pope will have more milage on their bodies and Howard might be gone as well. A midfield of Brad Davis, Andy Williams, Ross Paule and Jeff Moore doesn't look as bad now.

When Guevara arrives, they're gonna need to find a way to put Mathis up front to get some sort of scoring threat. Otherwise, this is going to be a team with a good defense, no offense and a 9 win season.

I'm stuck here in Beantown, so I didn't see the game. But is sounds like once we slot Guevara into the midfield, that will help a lot. Mathis can then move up top, and Magee can move to the bench, which is where a talented rookie forward should be at this point.

Can someone clarify where Leblanc and Clark played? It sounds like Clark was all over the field, which is fine with me, but I'm not sure how Leblanc fits into things.

    Remember: In Bob We Trust.

PS: No comments about the field turf -- is that a good sign?!
