I am not asking this in the Metros forum because I want unbiased opinions.

    1) why don't they put Diallo and Mathis up front together? I don't buy the whole chemistry thing. Maybe Diallo is stil hurt? Anyway I think if you give them time to play together they would become the greatest striker combination MLS has ever seen (maybe next year?) especially with Andy Williams in the midfield. Thoughts?

    2) ANyone else wonder how Faria has so many goals? He misses so many sitters I wonder how he collects a pay check. He scores a lot but it seems all his goals are because Ramos, Davis or Diallo or whoever sets a goal up for him.

    3) will most of the team be back next year?

If there is one team that we all have seen a million times, its Metrostars. I guess they're now "America's Team" I'd prefer Columbus be the choice. Maybe even, yuck!!, the Galaxy.

Diallo is poison. I wonder if Metrostars would be better off without him.

It seems to me that Faria gives himself a lot of great opportunties. Others might set them up, but he usually knows exactly where to be. 11 goals in 2200+ minutes is nothing remarkable, though.

    Metrostars should fire Zambrano.

    1) Mathis is probably better as a withdrawn forward or attacking mid with diallo and faria in front of him

    2) Sometimes referred to as the "Andy Cole Syndrome"

    3) If they make the playoffs AND they make it past the first series

I have to agree with the idea the Mathis is better as a set back forward. He hits those long balls that spring runners well. A good point was the ball he hit to Faria that Rimando snuffed in the second half.

As far as Faria, yes he misses a lot of chances, but count the amount of chances he got compared to Mathis. Mathis may be slowed right now by a groin, or a knee or what ever it is today, but Faria creates chances with his quickness that Mathis doesn't right yet.

If I were a Metros fan, I would call for OZ's head.
    Oh yeah...Gus St. Silva sucks!

Mathis is a striker, not a withdrawn forward. Pure and simple.

Don't believe me? Ask Bill Archer.

Faria is probably the best $ 60G forward in the league (assuming Carrieri and Buddle make more).

He makes great runs but has problems finishing.

Mathis has been injured since last season and Diallo has either played great, been mouthing off or been injured in the 2-3 months that he's been with the club. Faria is the only constant. Faria makes great runs and helps create those good opportunities but has no right foot and while his left is powerful, he
    sometimes comes up short.

Mathis and Diallo have never been out there without Faria, so we will never know how good a tandem they could have been.

Diallo doesn't seem to play well with anyone. I think they played a 4-5-1 in Tampa. I thought for sure Twellman got so many goals early because everyone was focusing in on Diallo but TT's scoring pace since Mamadou left NE proved me wrong. He also doesn't play for the Senegalese national team since a long time either. So maybe this all says something.

    No idea. I would.

Sure he misses a few, but so does everyone else. I think he does pretty well overall - and given his salary, he woudl be on any roster in the league. He's still pretty young and will get better. He's a hell of a lot more dangerous than Chris Albright.

    My guess is yes.

What I want to know is how Metros fans feel about seeing Balboa get interviewed during every game and talking about his knee.

    1. Diallo is indeed still hurt (which doesn't bode well for the team when he still works harder than most of them on one leg)

    2. He scores on about one out of every 10 chances. He misses way too many.

    3. Ramos is gone, I wouldn't be surprised to see Balboa gone (max. salary, zero minutes). Mathis is a major question mark. He wants to leave for Europe, but he's not playing like he wants to leave.

Young guys should mostly be back: Davis, Faria, Akwari, Howard etc.

OZ may be gone (most of the fans would like him gone I think)

    Diallo was hurt.

The problem with Faria is that he gets so many chances that he eventually makes one in, or is on the end of a brilliant play like Diallo's pass against Dallas last week. He is a hard working player, but he moans a lot. In other words, he's a bit(h.

The team should be ripped apart. As it is, it is horribly constructed. 250K for Balboa, and he hasn't played a minute. We traded for damaged goods! We always go for bad characters, whether it be Dialo or Serna. Plus, we have Zambrano as coach. He never puts any of the blame on himself. When he does, he does it in a showy overdramatic fashion, like he's trying to take the hit. He's pathetic.

Last night was the first time the whole year that we had a competent player on the right flank. Problem is that Zambrano took out Davis, which was just as useless.

I posted a post earlier in the year talking about how pathetic the team was in every way. From management, rite down to the worst stadium in MLS. Everything about us is a joke. I was sort of ridiculed. I think now we realize, that there has to be a major overhaul of the team, starting with management, and then all the way down.

Hey, you gave New England Diego Serna, so don't be surprised if us Revs fans have no sympathy. Not that we would anyways. :)

First off, Diego Serna is one of the most prolific goal scorers in MLS's 7 year history.

As for Diallo, ditto, the guy scores goals, he's leading the Metro's in goals scored despite limited action as of late.

Diallo, like many great artist, are simply misunderstood.

More questions, as the Metro's fascinate me this season:

    1) can Andy Williams play central attacking midfield or is he always on the wing?

    2) Why didn't the Metros get another player of Balboa's caliber since Chicago got to get a player due to injury last year (or was it 2000?)

As much as most Metros fans hate Diallo for past transgressions (see Mike Ammann for further details) he's been the only guy on the field who seems consistently to give 100% effort whenever he's on the field, which is pretty discouraging for a professional team.

    1) I think he was on the wing out of necessity last night. He tends to roam and try to find space, so I wouldn't characterize him as a winger.

    2) I'm gonna put on my anti-Nick hat on this one and say that the Metros wouldn't have to worry about it if our asinine GM had the good sense to ask for a physical before trading for a player. He came to us injured, so I'm not sure we deserve to get rewarded for it.

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME????????????

I will be the first to admit that the team has not been consistent in their effort this year - However, there are several players on the team (Paule, Howard, Jolley) who have given no less than 100% just about every minute they play. Diallo on the other hand throws a fit and starts screaming at people for not giving him the ball the exact way he wants it at the exact time he wants it. When things don't go his way, he is just as guilty as the rest of the team regarding poor effort. If I recall correctly, before he was hurt, he and Mathis were having it out on the middle of the field and Diallo quit playing just before he got hurt.

Last night, Diallo was still hurt. He told the Metros coaching staff before the game he was only good for 20 minutes.

The few times they've played together it's been hit or miss. A few nice through balls from Mathis to Diallo, but also a lot of clashes of Ego and some shouting matches on the field.

My personal thought is that neither Diallo nor Mathis will be in MLS next year so it really doesn't matter.

Faria scores his goals through great runs off the ball, work effort and constant hustle. He may be the best forward in the league and getting behind other teams defenses. If his finsihing abilities ever catch up with his ability to make great runs, he will be a monster.

I think the word "sitter" gets used way too much. 1v1 with a keeper is not always a sitter especially if the angle is very tough for the forward, then the keeper has the advantage.

I think another problem is there isn't a player that trails Faria close enough for the square pass after he's pulled the keeper wide. Faria did this once very nicely last night and dished it to Mathis who finally caught up to him. But then Mathis hesitated so much he shot was blocked.

I don't think Ramos has set him up once this season. And like most goals, it's a combination of good work by the forward to get in position and a good pass from another attacking player. How is Faria different from any other striker in the league in this respect.

Based on the Metros history and a likely coaching change: No.
