If some kind of trade isn't made this squad will be shite. What Nick is doing is disgusting.

We did get another TI or YI (whatever they call it now) slot and i guess some part of Donovan's allocation. (what the fuk is a partial allocation anyway?)

16 of 18 senior roster spots filled
5 of 10 Dev slots filled (includes the aE's)
1 Draftee (no roster status presently)
    % of an Allocation

3 of 4 SI Slots filled- Guevara, Bonseu, and SGR
2 of 4 TI Slots filled- Vaca, Gilberto
3 Dev players - Stammler and Arena, Gilberto(counts as a dev as well as a TI)
2 Generation adidas players- Bradley and Ward

Did we really draft Ward because he's buddies with Michael Bradley and maybe Rico POd Bob's son??? Did anyone think of this as a possibility???

I say we pay Pele a Million bucks for a comeback. He probably would still be better than about 85% of the league.

Actually that would be cool sign Pele for 1 game as a publicity stunt (like some small English team just did by signing Brazilian 50 year old Socrates for a game).

Ok someone Photoshop Pele in a Metro Uniform.

Now that the draft is done, if I had to rate the offseason so far, I'm guessing the majority would agree and give the Metrostars a pretty low grade. I know more deals must be coming but this is what is done so far.

    Summary:

    Loses
Lose Brenes and Ziadie in the expansion draft
    Lose Taylor, don't resign
Lose Glenn in trade to FCD
Lose Clark in trade to SJ
Lose 4th round pick in 2005 to SJ
Lose 2nd round pick in 2006 to RSL

    Gain
Gain Agoos in trade from SJ
Gain Corcoran and Ward in draft
Gain YI slot in trade from SJ
Gain YI slot in trade from RSL
    Gain allocation money from SJ

We lost 5 players who are argueablly all MLS calibur starters. Only one starter has been brought in, Agoos. I see Ward as being this years Michael Bradley (won't play a minute) and Corcoran as the next Tim Regan.

It will be interesting to see what will be done with the 2 YI slots. I'd expect one to be a forward similar to Taylor or Glenn and the other a midfielder comparable to Brenes or Vaca.

Letting Taylor and Glenn go suggests Bradley must have another Senior International in mind. Probably a forward? With Pope, SGR, Guevara, Walker, and Agoos all making fairly good money, I'm sure the allocation will help some, but I just don't see us affording the 'stud' player we are all hoping for. Obviously someone has to go with Pope and/or SGR most likely.

Its pretty clear that Bradley's agenda so far has been to improve the leagues worst defense. Getting Agoos and drafting two defensive players shows that. But by trading Clark, losing Ziadie, and if/when we trade Pope. Does anyone actually feel like our defense is any better? Let's hope the next two months offer us something better than the last two or it's gonna be a pretty long season.

    LET'S GO METRO!!!

I think we had a better team at the close of the season than now.

Losing Brenes was probably inevitable but I really thought Ricardo Clark had a long career with the MetroStars in front of him and now we need to find someone who will score at least as much as Cornell Glen. Glen led the 2004 MetroStars in points per minutes played (Guevara was a close second) and in goals per minutes played (Fabian, who has also left, was second and Wolyniec was third). Also, it's hard to find forwards with the strength, speed and goal scoring touch wrapped in one like Cornell Glen possesses; certainly, SGR does not fit this description.

And I still feel we are weak in defense. Agoos is cunning and has leadership skills but has lost his ability to keep up with faster forwards in transition.

Where's the silver lining in all this? Which defensemen and forwards are we going to bring in?

Saw the article about Steve Guppy possibly interested in the Metros:

    Gorman wants Guppy stay

He would be a good pickup for the metros. Solid player, lots of heart, a great crosser. He was a vital part of Leicester City back in the days of Martin O'Neil

Hope he makes it over the pond

Pope has offically parted ways with us, which begs the question....What does BB have up his sleave? The Agoos signing was ment to replace Pope, Pope's trade was ment to clear cap space, we also got som rather large allocations in the kitty..

We need a quality proven goalscoer and a savy left midfielder..i would be happy if we could get both those.

Anyway this is where we are at as of this moment:

    CURRENT METROSTARS ROSTER

    • Jeff Agoos.....................D.............1968-05-02

We still have an empty SI slot out there and 3 YI slots too. 3 senoir roster spots avalible. I want signing within the next 14 days!! No excuses we have the cap room and the allocation money to make this happen.

Yeah Vaca is gone so we have 4 YI slots available now.

Updated summary of offseason moves so far:

    Loses
Lose Brenes and Ziadie in the expansion draft
    Lose Taylor, not re-signed
Lose Glenn in trade to FCD
Lose Clark in trade to SJ
Lose 4th round pick in 2005 to SJ
Lose 2nd round pick in 2006 to RSL
    Lose Vaca, not re-signed
Lose Pope in trade to RSL
Lose Arena in trade to DC

    Gain
Gain Agoos in trade from SJ
Gain Corcoran and Ward in draft
Gain YI slot in trade from SJ
Gain YI slot in trade from RSL
Gain allocation money (~$200,000) from SJ
Gain allocation money (~$100-150,000) from RSL
Gain conditional draft picks from RSL (2nd round in 2006 or swap 1st round picks in 2005 supplemental draft)
Gain 3rd round pick in 2006 from DC

Bonseu may be gone also. Contract not guaranteed and is currently being negotiated for lower amount. With Pope, Ziadie, Arena, Clark out, I bet he'll be back.

Our backline would then be Leitch, Agoos, Parke, Bonseu with Stammler, Ward, Corcoran, and maybe Regan off the bench. Leagues worst defense and the only real difference so far is Agoos for Pope...*sigh*

I agree that our biggest need is a goal scorer. With SGR, Magee, and Woly this is by far our weakest area.

The midfield though has to come in a close second. If the starting 4 are Guevara, Gaven, Lisi, Flores....we basically only have Bradley off the bench or else use Magee, Regan or Corcoran in a midfield role.

8 players out from last year, 3 new ones in. Knock my socks off Nick and Bob, I'm ready for it.

    LET'S GO METRO!!!

Well two weeks to go and our roster has more holes in it than 50 cents house during a Compton Drive-by.

Bob and Nick did get the memo from MLS that we CAN have 28 players on the books this year , right?

Anyway this is where we are at as of this moment:

    QUESTIONS

    1. Is there anything offical on the status of Bonseu, last i heard he was on his way out.

    2. Henry Ring was in Equador, think he will be signed as a back up to Walker or the eventual replacement?

    3. Why the hell do we have 9 vacent roster spots? Are we signng that many players over the next 10 days?

    4. Why did we trade for extra YI slots if we are not going to use or package them in a trade offer?

    5. How much of that allocation kitty did we really use on Youri?

I am starting to get concerned here....what the fvck s the management doing...i mean i have barley heard shite about any potential quality signings coming our way.

I've done an update that hopefully will show what player rights Metrostars still hold.

    the roster above is accurate

    senior roster (14 of 18)
    Agoos, Jeff
    Gaven, Eddie
    Leitch, Chris
    Lisi, Mark
    Magee, Mike
    Parke, Jeff
    Regan, Tim
    Walker, Jonny (John)
    Wells, Zack
    Wolyniec, John

    SI's
    Bonseu, Tenywa
    Djorkaeff, Youri
    Galvan Rey, Sergio
    Guevara, Amado

but Bonseu's status is uncertain. Plus reports are that Corcoran and Carlos Mendes have signed to the senior roster.

    roster-protected (4 of 10):
    Bradley, Michael (old p40)
    Flores, Gilberto
    Stammler, Seth
    Ward, Tim (adidGEN)

reports are that Jayson Hernandez and Ramon Bailey (?YI) will sign DEV.

I'm not seeing reports that Pat Hannigan (supplemental pick) is in camp. Usiel Vazquez is playing with Charleston Battery. That covers all the draft picks. There have been many, many trialists. I"ll list them when they're signed.

Here are draft picks, considerations, YI spots, and allocations that Metrostars have acquired:
    fcDCtoMET(Arena-2/4/05)
    allctn(Donovan-???)-portion
    YIfSJtoMET(Clark-1/14/05)
    allctn(RSL_EXP_minor2?)
    YIfRSLtoMET(Y06R2PnatMET-1/14/05)
    fcRSLtoMET(Pope-2/1/05)

Here are considerations and a draft pick Metrostars owe:
    fcMETtoLA(Griffin_pick-1/14/04) becomes (***)
    Y06R2PnatMETtoRSL(YIfRSLtoMET-1/14/05) becomes (***)

Here's a list of players gone from Metrostars that I believe Metrostars still hold MLS rights to:
    Moore, Jeff waived(5/22/03)
    Glowienka, Tim waived(6/6/03)
    Grafer, Paul retired(11/24/03)
    LeBlanc, Jacob free?(12/31/04)
    Occean, Olivier drafted(1/16/04)
    David, Johnny drafted(1/16/04)
    Bartolomeu, Edgar waived(3/3/04)
    Forchetti, Juan loan_exp(12/31/04)
    Galven, Jose (Galvén, José) loan_exp(12/31/04)
    Juskowiak, Andrzej free?(12/31/04)
    Addo, Joe free?(12/31/04)
    Williams, Richie free?(12/31/04)
    Nugent, Mike retired(4/16/04)
    Taylor, Fabian loan_exp(12/31/04)
    Vaca, Joselito free(12/31/04)
    Hannigan, Pat drafted(1/14/05)
    Vazquez, Usiel drafted(1/14/05)

    ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Wasn't it obvious he could not do the work for which he was hired?
Or did the person who was paid to see if he could do the work for which he was hired fail to notice.

Even Robo Telmarketer would have noticed.......

No. Pore through the media reports, and you'll see it's written that we haven't yet used the Donovan allocation money on Youri or anyone else. That, plus the 150k allocation money, means we have enough money left for a max salary player and then some.

Over in Yanks Abroad, there's a thread based on a story that Landon Donovan is returning to MLS by 3/31. If true, will be interesting to see how MLS handles assigning him to a team. SJ has used the allocation they received for him (trading it to US). Does possessing this allocation give us a tenuous (bonseu) claim to Donovan? Hey, we got beaches!
