You've had a team since 1916 with no league titles? Damn...and we were complaining about 8 years. You are the Chicago Cubs of Norweigan soccer.
a lot of those years was spent in the lower divisions, comparing us with the Cubs is hardly fair Besides... Rosenborg has won the title every year since 1992, with the money they have accumulated through Champions League matches they are increasingly tough to beat. While they can pick and choose between players, we are struggling to balanse our budget.
I was just pulling your clog. So, who won the game? It's been over for 2 hours, no? I was on the club site (english option, nice!), but no news.
Well, you guys won! La Manga Cup, gruppe A: New York/New Jersey MetroStars - Bodø/Glimt 3-1 (0-0) La Manga, bane G Mål: 1-0 Joselito Vaca (55), 2-0 Oliver Ocean (58), 3-0 Joselito Vaca (58), 3-1 Per Ivar Steinbakk (81) Yellow card: Craig Ziadie, MetroStars, André Hanssen, Aasmund Bjørkan and Ville Lehtinen, Bodø/Glimt. I had the result 3-1 right at least...just to the wrong team
We've got an extra sea in our Ocean.... Good for us to win a game, somewhat convincingly from the score line (having been up 3-0 at one point), to get us ready for our "advanced" spring training before the season. 35 days until opening kick, I think.
According to the article i read, Glimt had particular trouble with quick striker Oliver Ocean...guess he had a good game then...
Depending on the other results, we've got a real shot of advancing as the best second place finisher out of the three groups. I'm on the edge of my seat.
Thanks Radin for the info and quick report, by the way. If we had to depend on our team/league website for those, we'd likely be finding out the result around when the team was already back in the US.
Radin, Thanks for the result. I'm assuming from his demeanor that Bradley goes by the "winning is a habit" Parcellian philosophy, that as long as they are keeping score you try to win the game, rather than using the tournament just to see the guys play. On that note, it appears to have been good that we went, though, we can't get too excited about this. Any word on how the other MLS teams are doing?
from earlier results, the metros are assured of making it because of their +1 goal differential. There is no result in group C (san jose's group) that can yield the second place team having more than 3 points OR 3 points with a +1 goal differential. in dallas' group, the same is true. Metros must be through.
Good to see Vaca net his first goals as a Metro... i really think he will have a breakout season this year.
I think you're right about this. What's more, since they try to avoid matches between teams from the same league in the second round, we won't get Group C first place finisher San Jose. I'd imagine we won't get Viking, who we already faced in our own group match. That leaves.....Dynamo Kiev.
I would bet that you hit this one on the head. I would expect to see the Metros playing Dynamo Kiev. By the way, Dallas and Dynamo tied today 2-2.
Re: Re: Metrostars in La Manga Cup in Spain [R] I guess you were looking for a site with livescore from the La Manga matches? I couldn`t find a single one who has it, we just have to wait a few hours until someone posts the results. Here`s e site with sportsnews in english: http://www.aftenposten.no/english/sports/ hope it helps
well good to see the metros play well against international competition and real nice to see 2 of our new pickups get on the score sheet
Radin, are you going to be around to be around for the start of our MLS season? We could use your predictions when the season starts! Sorry to hear that the same team wins your division because of money issues. Sounds like they're the NY Yankees of Norway. Thanks for the news summary. Hopefully, this guy Ocean is for real and not just another guy who only plays well in pre-season. Encouraging that Vaca knocked in two goals, since last year the Metros midfield couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. In fact, I believe they only scored a few more goals than the defenders did.
Re: Re: Re: Metrostars in La Manga Cup in Spain [R] I was looking for a link to norwegian football news in english. This at least helps. Any links that cover Norwegian Soccer but in english? Thanks.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Metrostars in La Manga Cup in Spain [R] That was the only site with the latest soccer news in English i could find However, when the season starts 12/04/04 it will probably be dominated by soccer news...it usually is. I did find sites with results in English, hopefully they will be updating when it all starts again: http://www.soccerway.com/results/?filename=soccer_data/tab/games3.nor0.html Most of the clubs own sites has a english section, you can find links to these pages here: http://www.vg.no/sport/pekere/fotball.hbs My site is on there too
