Metro just sent out the following:

    MetroStars.com SuperDraft Fan Poll
With just days remaining before the clock starts at the 2003 MLS SuperDraft, MetroStars.com wants to hear from the fans.

The second pick of the draft goes to MetroStars Head Coach Bob Bradley, giving him a great opportunity to pick up some young talent.

Who do you think he should draft? Submit your vote here
    http://www.metrostars.com/metronews/poll2.htm

So, apparently we are in control of the ship as Metro management has given up on making the decision themselves. Interesting strategy.

    Candidates are:

Alecko Eskandarian (P40), F, Virginia, Jr.
    Ricardo Clark, M, Furman, Soph.
    Shavar Thomas, D, Connecticut, Sr.
    Eddie Gaven, M, U.S. U-17's
    Guillermo Gonzalez (P40), M, U.S. U-17's
    Diego Walsh, M, SMU, Sr.
    Damani Ralph, F, Connecticut, Sr.
Davis Stokes (P-40), D, North Carolina, Jr.
Jason Thompson (P40), F, Easter Illinois, Jr.
Brian Carroll (P40), M, Wake Forest, Jr.

    With the latest results being:

Alecko Eskandarian (P40), F, Virginia, Jr.:
    46%
    Ricardo Clark, M, Furman, Soph.:
    15%
    Shavar Thomas, D, Connecticut, Sr.:
    1%
    Eddie Gaven, M, U.S. U-17's:
    12%
    Guillermo Gonzalez (P40), M, U.S. U-17's:
    12%
    Diego Walsh, M, SMU, Sr.:
    3%
    Damani Ralph, F, Connecticut, Sr.:
    6%
Davis Stokes (P-40), D, North Carolina, Jr.:
    1%
Jason Thompson (P40), F, Easter Illinois, Jr.:
    0%
Brian Carroll (P40), M, Wake Forest, Jr.:
    0%

    Total Votes: 58

So, you are all the general managers. Go vote.

Remember these two words: Sam Bowie

    They'll pick Diego Walsh.

That way they don't have to buy new shirts. And some of us could wear our Walsh shirts again.

Ha, they should have Walsh Night and give out that Welch drink. Just like there should have been a Petke Bleach Night.

I think there is a chance Hudson may go for Memo as a replacement for Etcheverry and leave Alecko for us. My guess is he'll end up taking Gaven or maybe Jaqua (if he wants another striker) at 5.

How can we vote for Sam Bowie if he's not on the list?

Mine, too. So good he's scary. And I'm scared he'll wind up someplace else.

Re: Re: Metrostars hire fans as GM for Draft

Sam Bowie was the player drafted ahead of Michael Jordan because that team (Clippers, iirc) didn't need a guard. So they took Sam Bowie, a career backup center, with the number 2 pick in the draft. So, whatever Metro do, they need to avoid the Sam Bowie pick. There are a lot of studs in this draft. One could be the next Beasley/Donovan in 2-3 years. I just don't want to pass on the next Taylor Twellman to get the next Ritchie Williams.

I would trade down. Try to get 2 players out of the deal. Would love to see a combo of Mike Magee and Eddie Gaven. Would be nice to have a player for the future that we can groom. And since we finally have a coach that can do that, we should take advantage of it.

That was not the Clips, but the Portland Trail Blazers. And at the time, nobody flinched. A few years later, that was another story.

I personally think, in keeping with tradition, they'll go for that Alvarez kid.;)

Maybe they've learned a bit since Steve Shak.
