that's too bad, was hoping he could cause more fighting within the Metros orginization. Well They got rid of Diallo..now Zambrano...two pieces of the "attitudes" problems solved.
Hmmm..... I think he's a better coach than what the Metrostars record reflected this season personally.
Guess Nick had a change of heart from his initial feelings after the season ended. Probably after talking to some of the players...
Wow, that didn't take long. OK, now here's the deal. The new coach will be Bruce Arena, who will take the job because he wants to help the US National team, and he can do this by making Metro a decent franchise, therefore giving the league permanence and the financial footing to produce reserve teams. Wonder why Clint came out yesterday with "renewed spirit?" That's why. He told Nick it was him or me. And while your're at it, hire Arena, for whom I'll commit any kind of nefarious act. No inside information, just speculation. Total utter baseless speculation. But I find it might odd that Bruce Arena's confirmation and renewal as national team coach is somehow "not an issue" at this time.
A far more likely possibility is that Monday was the first full business day after Metrostars season ticket holders received a laughable solicitation to renew their tickets for next year. I'm thinking there were some phone calls and letters and e-mails that came in telling the Metro front office where they could stick their "invoice," if no substantial changes were made.
He can run his mouth all he wants, as long as he gets that stadium bill through committee on October 24th, and hires Dave Sarachan to make all the soccer-related decisions.
Odd how some coaches are relieved of coaching duties but still retain player director and youth coaching positions. Those situations never seem to work out. Oh well - what team will Oz coach next? Kansas City?
This is because the coach has a contract so the team still has to pay him, even if he's not coaching the first team. Might as well get some value for their money.
I believe Oz still has a contract with MLS...so they find something for himt o do so they don't pay out his contract for nothing. Kind of like How Dave Dir all the sudden became a TV announcer after Dallas didn't want him anymore and he still had years left on his contract.
I dunno, I'd think that Zambrano would work out well in Dallas. I don't think any other coach is going to get the shaft this year though. DC's the only other odd man out, and they seem to be more than willing to give coaches some time to try to make a mark.
i think it's 50-50 odds on nick hiring himself as the coach of the team you know he thinks he can do it better than anyone else
I'm sure he still has a contract with MLS - it just seems after you fire a guy from the most important job at the team, he is going to be a whole lot less motivated at his new or reduced duties. It has to be awkward, you know he hates Nick now and he is going to be searching those classified ads looking for anything to get out of there. It were me, I would pay the man and tell him to take a hike. Its less hassle.
i actually think that each team hires its own coach and mls has nothing to do with it... that's how metros were able to get bora, carlos, etc. that's the one thing that's not controlled by the league. also, there was an issue with zenga being player coach as it was the gray area. anyway. its a wonderful day in metroland.
