Has Metrosports been any use during the offseason? Have they had and bits of info on the Wizzers? J/C cuss my tv is stuck on Channel 203 or MTV2.
Well to answer my own question they did a report on the trade. Mr. Crapert threw out his 2 cents. He also reported that CJ was very happy with the schedule for this year. Ho-hom breathtaking to say the least.
MetroSports to Cover the Draft LIVE! Looks like MetroSports has stepped up here locally for coverage in the Kansas City area. Wheelock and Dir to provide the commentary. Hope this is good exposure for Wheelock as I think he is one of the better soccer talking heads in the biz right now. Last paragraph of KC Star article: http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/4955915.htm "The Wizards announced Wednesday that Metro Sports will carry Friday's MLS SuperDraft live. Wizards TV analyst Sean Wheelock and David Dir, former coach of the Dallas Burn, are expected to provide commentary." I might have to take a long lunch on Friday to take some of it in...
i'm going to tape it so i can see myself on tv. maybe. any word yet on which games are to be televised on Metros. I really hope this is the year we get 100% of our away games on tv. mmmm. televised away games.
Re: MetroSports to Cover the Draft LIVE! personally, i don't care for his commentary at all. he seems to spout off where somebody used to play, or how they're in the national team pool. gee thanks. when i already know that info, it's not helpful. when i don't know that info, i don't really care where they used to play. there's so much more to the game than facts, like for example - the play on the field. quit missing the subtle plays of the game - the faints, the look-aways, catching a defender leaning, superior vision, the great plays in the midfield that don't lead to goals. this would help fans learn and appreciate the skill of the game.
Paul, Wheelock had the very difficult job last year of doing color commentary while, Dave Stewart did play by play. Stewart is a relitively new comer to the sport of soccer so it would be unwise for him to to color about something his is clueless about. Sean on the other hand does excellent play by play, and that is where he needs to be.
Agreed with OJ. Wheelock had to follow Stewarts lead on off topic issues and it was OK. (Face it Dave you strayed for pure PbP) Plus you must remember that network coverage of this sport still must cater to a general audience not a specific soccer know-it-all audience. This sport is still just barely on the radar screen in most markets so I don't mind the first 20 minutes of a game getting rehashed on the players backgrounds as they start getting touches in the game and settling in. If you need further example of that all you had to do was watch any single USMNT game where Jack & Ty I'm sure were required to provide background on the players and miss some play by play just to ensure everybody is aware of the talent your viewing. As for Wheelock himself he's great. If you've ever had to wait in concession lines or in the bathrooms during the home games, they broadcast his play by play through the speakers inside and he paints a very accurate picture of the passes, runs, fouls, and momementum build ups occuring very well. It's just when he does the away games with Dave Stewart he's into that role of color/human interest the whole time which is not his bag baby. He gets it...
I also agree wth OJ and beech. Sean is a great PBP guy that has to put up with Mr. Craperts know it all attitutude. I hope Sean can take working with him another year becuase I know I couldn't.
Mr. Blake, you have again spouted off about something you obviously know nothing about. I'm finding that to be the norm with you about most things Wizards related. But that aside: Though my opinion is undoubtedly biased, because I consider Sean a friend, Sean is probably one of the top 3 soccer play-by-play guys in the country. He knows his ************. And he knows how to call a game. He flat out DOESN'T (I repeat DOES NOT) miss the subtle things in the game. Again, I'm biased, but Sean is an excellent PBP guy, and I for one am extremely glad we've got him... let's just all hope that Metrosports wises up and fixes things in the booth this year.
i never claimed this was a popular opinion, i just stated mine. i don't care for his color commentary - whether that's networked forced for a dumbed down audience or not. as for his pbp, i can't say i'm a big fan of that either. his annoying voice inflections on the wrong words bothers me for two straight hours, and by the end i'm wishing someone else had called the game. i'm not satisfied at all, and i'll let it be known.
very classy gesture by mr. wheelock, as he just pm'd me saying that my points were fair. he said he is always open to feedback, etc. etc. all this after i went after him pretty hard, so i can definitely respect that. he'll improve and have a long career with this kind of attitude.
Sean does read these boards often... I've yet to see him post, but the boards pop up every once in a while in conversation during the season.
i'm curious as to how your incredibly biased opinion is superior to my unbiased one? btw, in sean's pm to me, he admitted that in his first year of doing color, he tended to focus on facts - such as where players used to play - anot much on the subtleties of the game. feel free to retract your statement any time now.
Paul you sound bitter about Sean doing pbp. Do you think you could do a better job? Don't get me wrong but you are the first and only person who is a Wiz fan to bitch about him.
no, i'd be horrible at pbp or color. that's why i'm one of the hacks on these boards. it's an art, and i have nothing in that world to offer. the only people i know that like him are the people on these boards. everyone i watch games with is not impressed, thus i'm bringing up a different opinion than the others on these boards.
No... I still think you're a complete ass who has yet to make an intelligent comment about the Wizards or soccer in general.
