Last night on the Metrosports Zone, Dave Stewart reported that Curt Johnson has expressed an interest in Comets defender Alex Zotinca. This was in addition to video of yesterdays Wizards practice, interviews with Chris Klein and Nick Garcia, and a graphic about Saturday's match with the Fire. Oh yeah, and they mentioned that KC Kicks will premiere tomorrow, Friday April 25th at 5:30 p.m. Wizards, Royals, Chiefs, Big XII, and KC high school coverage like you can get nowhere else. I love Metrosports!
Yes, KC Kicks starts up again tomorrow night. But with Dave Stewart hosting instead of Wheelock. And there are rumors that the show may get bumped to an every-other-week rotation instead of the weekly show. On a related note: I talked at length with Sean earlier this week. Learned a number of extremely interesting things about what happened this offseason both with MLS and the Wizards. BTW- he's absolutely loving the new job at FSW, but misses being around for Wizards games. He mentioned that for the one Wednesday night home game this season, he'd probably join us in the Cauldron.
he has a green card. So he doesn't count against us in the SI department. He would most likely work for peanuts, which is a lot better than the peanut shells the pay the players in MISL. I might have seen him play, I don't remember, but anything to keep Brunt off the feild.
Hmmm... name something in particular you'd like to know about, and if I know about it/can say anything about it, I'll be glad to share.
Alex Zotinca would be a quality addition. He's the one Comets player that I find interesting...though, hey, if he had a green card, Dino Delevski might be useful as well. Zotinca's a defender with a good left foot and a cannon shot.
GOD DAMN IT!!!! One game I cant be there since I moved to f-ing St. Louis. I'd really like to meet that guy.
Appearantly so for hitting 5, 3 pointers in one week this year. Seriously that is pretty freaking hard to do. That is about 25 yars out and into one heck of a smaller goal, with the players to playing surface size higher.
Too late, Dino signed with Milwaukee Wave United about a week ago. The story of it was posted with the daily bunch on the MLS forum. BTW ojs, the 3-line is closer to 15 yds.
Update http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/5754900.htm As the article says, the deal is just waiting for Zotinca and MLS to reach an agreement. I dont really care for the indoor game, so I have no clue who this guy is. Anyone who's played in the UEFA Cup cant be a bad addition can they?
Now... If MLS can reach the agreement with Zotinca, do we then go back to a 4-4-2? I know Gansler says it's not about the formation that you play, but I'm not sure I put 100% faith in that statement. Given what my girls did last weekend, I'm leaning more towards 85% faith in that statement. At this level, the players should be able to defend as a unit, but I've seen some holes in the 3 back lineup. And does he start?
I don't follow the Comets, but I remember reading an article when they signed this guy. His UEFA Cup experience piqued my interest as well. I thought at the time that he sounded like a much better addition to the Wizards than the Comets. I hope we can sign him, I still feel we have a weak bench in defense.
I don't think that it's quite as weak as it seems... because we know that Talley & Gutierrez can both drop back. That gives us a 2 man cushion before we get into Brunt Territory... But since those 2 have both been starting elsewhere, we end up shifting the entire lineup to replace one guy on the back line.
Chicago Fire Boards are starting to indicate that there is intrest in Dino being acquired from Milwaukee Wave. I mentioned this a while back after his first League MVP (he got it consecutively by the way http://www.kccomets.com/news/index.php?cat=18&id=202) and got all the "indoor doesn't necessarily translate to outdoor" replies from many of you. (It probably translates a lot more than you give it credit.) If he shows up in MLS and does decently on the Fire's plastic I'm gonna be pissed as he was right in our own back yard and we ignored him. No workouts, trial practices, nothing. I guarantee he's better than Fatbro, Arnaud, or even Brown over time. More "rumor" information here also concerning Zotinca and that he's been released but there is some hangup at MLS HQ. http://www.oursportscentral.com/messageboard.cfm?sport=Soccer These tone of these posts seem somewhat legit.
Hes great at indoor soccer....HOWEVER who here has seen him play outdoor? Probably nobody. He played college ball I believe at Oklahoma, if he was that great- somebody would have found him there.
He couldn't have played at Oklahoma... they don't have a team. No Big XII school has a men's soccer team. Damned Title IX.
Actually OU had a club team along with 7 of the Big 8 (KSU) at the time, but I doubt Zotinca played on it. Like many sports-even those with NCAA teams already, schools just play on a "Club" level not sponsored or governed by the highly uptight NCAA. In men's soccer there was actually a Big 8 Championship tournament played (or was in the early 90's). In widespread sports like volleyball there are actually huge National collegiate tournaments in several divisions. Last year's was in Bartle Hall in conjunction with the USVBA Nationals. I think the "scrubs" who were not good enough for the Arizona U. Wildcat NCAA team won it. They were all about 6'8".
KSU didn't have a club team then? Are you sure? KSU's had a club team as long as I can remember. KSU *is*, of course, the only Big XII school without varsity womens' soccer. They have equestrian instead. Damn, the jokes from that are...just...too easy...must...leave...them...out in the...comedic...ether... BYU is, of course, taking the club team to the next level, by playing as a PDL team as well. Pretty cool.
Of course they had a club team... but he wouldn't have "played college ball at Oklahoma," he would have played club ball at Oklahoma. The phrase "college ball" denotes that he played for a school-sponsored varsity squad.
Look, I know it's bold and unprecedented and all, but I went to the Comets' web site and learned that he went to (and played at) Oklahoma City University (who has varsity men's soccer). It's a NAIA Division I school in Oklahoma City, in case you were wondering. Their basketball coach is Wim Case, father of KU incoming freshman Jeremy Case, but that's beside the point.
