http://www.thecrew.com/schedule.cfm?article=245&header=SCHEDULE The Crew's website is reporting that the game was a 0-0 draw. No details yet.
2:2 actually. SCORING SUMMARY: CLB: Matteo 1; MET: Pope (Moreno, Jolley ) 35; CLB: Garcia 61; MET: Droze (Moore, Regan) 90'. Moreno missed PK, Grafer blocked Martino's. Metro press release: http://www.metrofanatic.com/mf/story.jsp?ID=1120
Interesting, TheCrew.com just updated their site and now it says 2-2. I can't find the game on Matchtracker.
Let's hope Droze isn't a pre-season scoring machine in the Byron Alvarez mold. I remember reading that Alvarez scored several time during pre-season last year, giving me false hope. But once they subbed him into a game that meant something he didn't seem to know what the hell was going on. If Droze makes the team, I wonder if it will be at the expense of Gio.
http://www.matchnight.com/mn-matchreport.cfm?MID=10 MetroStars - Paul Grafer; Criag Ziadie, Steve Jolley (Kenny Arena 74), Eddie Pope (Joe Addo 62), Kieran McAnaspie (Tim Glowienka 46 ); Richie Williams, Ricardo Clark (Jeff Moore 74), Chris Sanje (Tim Regan 46) , Jaime Moreno (Jacob Leblanc 70); Tommy Mooney (Giovanni Savarese 62), Mike Magee (Derk Droze 74). Columbus Crew -Tom Presthus; Daniel Torres, Nelson Akwari (C. Mcarthy 46), Ian Joy, Chris Leitch (Brian Dunseth 46), Jeff Matteo (Freddy Gracia 46), Perea (Frankie Hejduk 46), Ross Paule (Brian West 46), Omar Belbey (Edson Buddle 46), Luchi Gonzalez (Kyle Martino 46. Diego Walsh 89), Dante Washington (Michael Ritch 46, Brian Maisonnueve 72). How many PK's have been called against so far in preseason? It seems like 5 or 6.
Droze Am I wrong, or does Droze have 2 of our last 3 goals? I don't think his production would fall off... He used to come off the bench a lot for Olstykke for instant offense, second half goals. Plus, he's very much in the mold of the American work-ethic, hard working, blue collar American player. He'll give a solid 100% honest, high energy effort every time he steps onto the pitch. He'd be a good pick-up for the Metros and will push the rest of the guys to not take a night off.
My guess is that it's either Droze or Gio, not both of them. If you figure that Mathis is a forward, that's 3 forwards guaranteed to make the team (Mathis, Moreno, Magee). I can't see keeping 5 forwards on the team (even if Magee doesn't use a roster spot), so Droze and Gio, and Tommy Mooney for that matter, are battling for that last forward spot.
somewhere in the equation is the salary cap as well, it may force the manager to pick the player based on his wage demands more then his skill, which sux
I see that French guy, whatever his name was didnt play and is no longer on the roster: http://www.metrostars.com/metronews/submissions/2003/march/03102003v1.htm
