if anyone has any corrections or a source i'm missing... please let me know it helps myself and gpk with the morning news... in addition, i hope some of you might use it to contact your local paper... or even espn or fox sports world (check my sig "-US Soccer Media Directory" to see what i'm doing on the grand scale) thanks -jim
I'm not surprised that you left out Newsday. Even though it is the 6th largest daily circulation paper in the US, Newsday has abandoned Metros and MLS. I used to try to nudge them into more coverage but I long since gave up and cancelled my home delivery from them. I strongly urge all supporters of soccer in LI/Queens to do the same and let them know why you are cancelling.
something i forgot to ask for help on... any soccer radio or tv programs in the area... i know the metros have their own weekly show on a cable station... some information on that would be great... i also have a radio program area that i'm working on as well... you can check out what i have on that here
jmeissen - Great list -- I would add the Jersey Journal, based in Jersey City. Ron Zeitlinger (ron.zeitlinger@jjournal.com) is the sports editor, and Steve Rosenberg (steve.rosenberg@jjournal.com) is the Western Hudson reporter, which includes Harrison news. They usually give just the AP reports of results, and they don't publish at all on Sundays, but they have been covering the Harrison stadium issue more than almost anyone. Jim Hague is the sole sportswriter for all of the weekly Hudson Reporter papers (JC, Hoboken, WNY, Weehawkin, Bayonne, Secaucus, Union City) and really covers only High School and St. Peter's sports. I've never seen a Metro-related article in any of the Reporter papers.
thanks obie... the weehawken was added because i caught a couple of articles on petke's return from them i haven't seen anything else, but it at least shows they are looking in our direction from time to time
ok, i've added the jersey journal to my listings... this thread doesn't show that, but the directory does
Re: TV Show Madison Square Garden network shows the "Metro Soccer Report" with Steve Cangelosi (spelling?) J P Dellacamera, and Shep Messing. First showing is generally Thursday Night at 11 PM with 2 or 3 reruns. Here is the website: http://www.msgnetwork.com/metrostars.jsp
Is Bell the head soccer writer at the Times? I know he wrote the nice piece today on Clark and Magee, and does seem to be doing the majority of the Metros pieces, when they don't have a hack job done by AP (like Sunday's horrid Crapids match summary). Alex Yannis has long covered soccer there (even wrote a great book, _Inside Soccer_, pub. McGraw Hill back in the 80s), but covers the Devils until their season ends.
radio shows i do not know if you wish to include broadcasts in spanish but here they are : -Sundays 8PM-10PM ET (wado 1280 AM) Metrostars show- talks about game from previous day and about other league games, some preview of next week's game....This station also does PbP on game day -Sundays (9-10PM ET) Radio Unica has "unicamente MLS", a weekly show only about MLS ..Here in NY/NJ it's 1660 AM, but the station is the only spanish speaking one with that can claim to be heard in most of the nation, through many local stations
what's the website for the english one? also, who are the hosts? as for radio unica... if you can get all the links and what not, i'll be glad to add it... i, unfortunately, can't read spanish, so i wouldn't be able to get all the information thanks -jim
bell does a weekly piece, tuesdays i believe, year round... yannis seems to do game recaps... but most of the pieces in there seem to come from bell (a bs lurker)... but you're right... i need to add yannis, and i should be able to get his email in addition, vescey occassionally adds something, but that's pretty rare
Newsday: - main soccer writer is some guy named "AP" - "covers" US, Power and Metros - articles printed when hell freezes over, or when pigs fly -contact info at www.newsday.com
News 12 NJ has "Inside New Jersey Soccer" 10:35 pm & 11:35 p.m. with repeats Saturday 8:30am & 1pm. I couldn't find a anything at www.news12.com, but here's a Metro article: http://www.metrostars.com/schedule/television/nj12.htm
Perhaps i was not clear enough (my apologies) but both radio shows are in Spanish: -Sundays 8PM-10PM ET (wado 1280 AM)- the show is called "Solo Futbol" Hosted by Ernesto Motta and Robert Sierra. On the net (WM9 Series needed) http://stream1.adsertion.com/radio/listen.asp?stationid=10 Use same link for PbP coverage (whenever Metro is playing)....Usually with a 30 min pregame coverage -Sundays (9-10PM ET) Radio Unica has "Unicamente MLS", hosted by Hammer Londo~o a weekly show only about MLS ..Here in NY/NJ it's 1660 AM....On the site www.radiounica.com there is a ticker that indicates the station affiliates in cities throughout the nation ... But to listen on the internet this is the link : javascript:Escucha_En_Vivo=window.open('a_lis_home.aspx','Escucha_En_Vivo','width=500,height=400');Escucha_En_Vivo.focus() Radio Unica will have Copa Oro and covers most USMNT games (since they signed a deal with USSF) so it's a good link to get PbP in Spanish for Nats games as well
ok, changes made -added the two spanish radio stations (does WADO have a url that i can add for it?) -found an email address for Michael Lewis, unsure if it still works (aol one from his days at SI) -added the Inside New Jersey Soccer Show jim
I had totally forgotten to reply to this (just brought to my attention from your directory) WADO's site will come out by typing www.radiowado.com or also http://wado.netmio.com/homepage/0,2257,SI11-LGes,00.html (they are really the same thing) to listen just click on "Escucha" (in orange) and on the next page click on "Empezar" (in white)
