thanks 3rd Degree, looks like Dalglish may be good after all? Hopefully the apple didn't fall too far from the tree.
I would still be surprised if Dalglish sticks... but you never know... of course I also haven't seen him play. --------------------------------------------- DALLAS BURN HEAD COACH MIKE JEFFRIES: On his team's match: "In the first half we really were not sharp. Obviously it's preseason but we've played enough games and I thought we'd be sharper. We didn't string together enough good plays until the end of the first half." "We were just too far off the ball and we had no shape and were lucky not to give up any goals or chances. We bent but we didn't break. Things were crisper in the second half." On the performance of Paul Dalglish: "He's had lots of chances and tonight he finished very well. It was, however, a tough time to evaluate a player at that stage of the game with tired players on the field and unproven players on both sides." DALLAS BURN FORWARD PAUL DALGLISH: On his trial period with Dallas: "My dad (Kenny Dalglish) played deeper than I do and probably ended up assisting more than scoring. Hopefully I'll continue to show I can score goals in MLS. The standard of talent here is much higher than a lot of people think. It's enjoyable to play with American players. I like the way Americans build the attack out of the back. There's not too many long balls. In England and Scotland the goalkeeper just bangs the ball out of the back and I get more opportunities here." On his future: "If I don't catch on with Dallas hopefully there were other people watching and I can find a place in this League."
It sounds (from the MLSnet description) that these two goals were very much the way that Dalglish plays best. He's reputed to be a smart player, makes very good runs off the ball, plays best in a "short game" where there is a lot of combination and possession ball. I don't know if that's what you're looking for in Dallas, but if so, he's a good player for that kind of style. I think the challenge is he's not good enough for Premiership and doesn't play the kind of ball well that you see in the lower divisions (less possession, more kickball, more direct soccer).

The new uni is OK. Not that it's a huge change from the old one. And I don't think I'll spend another $60 just to get rid of the collar.
