Not true. There was a good deal of cohesiveness. And the last goal, for example, was off a great through ball from Gaven. I think you're selling the team short. Guevara was stellar. Vaca was very good, but admittedly a bit inconsistent. Ricardo was not a mess defensively.

The MLS is made to support the Mens national team, by either giving the guys somewhere to play or making them good enough to go overseas and get even better. Guys, not trolling here, but I'm just curious. Exactly WHAT did Donovan do in this game to warrant him being called a punk? Seems to me the guy that shoved Waibel into the wall could perhaps warrant being called a punk. There was no diving, whining, anything that he's being accused of in that game. I just don't get it, perhaps I never will. As far as his Nats performance, for those of you saying he's stunk in every game this year but Mexico, that's simply not true. First game of the year, against Wales, was it? Bruce Arena said he played "terrific." Those were his EXACT words. In fact, he was very unlucky, hitting the post at least once, if not twice. So flame away, but you do need to get the facts right. As my personal bias has him being a very good, dynamic player, and yes, "chippy" player; your personal bias has him a whiny punk.
MSG showed a "highlight reel" of Donovan's "Punkiest Moments Against the Metros" during the game. Did you watch it on MSG? I agree that he really didn't do anything chippy in today's game, but between the highlight video and a couple of exceptional Landon plays leading to goals, well, he's a punk. Now I'll go back to being a Donovan apologist on the USA boards.
I thought that "Punkiest Moments" was hightlights from last year. Thought it was kind of funny, them saying it was a "vicious" tackle against Gavarra (yeah, about as vicious as that towel slap ) But boys will be boys, right? once again, you really got me. You guys act like the Metrostars are more important than the national team. I love the metrostars and I love watching them, but what it all comes down to is the World Cup and hopefully the USA eventually winning a world championship. Yea, Donovan may be an ************** sometimes, but thats the type of play we will all love to see once he is on our side again just like San Jose loves him now.
The only channel broadcasting the game was MSG, so it was all them. The only way to watch the game in the Bay Area was through HDNet, and they were just showing the MSG broadcast. Plus, since Shep and Steve were at the game, you would think that MSG had total control over the broadcast. BTW, is it me, or have they been slowing increasing the number of cameras at the games over the years? Remember the days of only having 2 camera angles for replays? Now there's usually 4-5 differents shots of the goals (no pun intended).
MLS is made to support the Men's national team. That is insightful. I guess uncle Phil, Lamar Hunt, and Robert Kraft, as owners in the league are willing to pour millions of dollars just to supply the UMNT with players. I guess that is how they made billions, by throwing money they never hope to recoup on a losing venture. What's next for you quantum physics.
Dude, enough. You're on the Metrostars board, surely you must realize that to some of us, yeah, the Metros are more important than the USMNT. And by the way, look around the world, often domestic sides are closer to the hearts of football fans than their country's national team. It's not that unusual. Regardless of whether you like the USMNT or the Metros more, we all look to MLS to create a culture of football in this country, so that the game takes a place in the sporting culture of our country. That is something that a national team can not do alone. I mean, even if we did something England, Spain or Holland never did, win a World Cup away from home, our football culture would never attain the level of those countries unless and until MLS becomes a good, supported league. PS, if you are a kid, I wouldn't expect you to see this, so if you are, I'm sorry about my tone. If you're over 17, I stick to my first response and repeat it.
Read the MLS Charter or Mission Statement or whatever it's called sometime. That is exactly one of it's stated purposes.
The league has done nothing but lose money, and they know they have just thrown their money away but they keep trying to keep the league going. The NHL is much more sucesful than the MLS and they are even on the verge of closing down, so the MLS is even more of a threat to fold. The MLS was made to support soccer in America, which mainly unfolds to the US team. Think about it, why else would the league send their best players overseas? First of all, to make them better, and secondly to make money to keep the league alive. If they were only trying to make the MLS succesful, I dont beleive the best way is to give away your best players. Once again, just some more reasons why they decided to start the league, among others.

Oh my god, why am I still engaged in this idiocy. You have now changed your argument completely, from the above in yesterday afternoon's post, to last night, by saying that developing players for the USMNT is 1 of 5, I repeat, 1 of 5 "guiding business priniples". If MLS was "made to support" the USMNT, it would be the one principle, no? You quoting the MLS business principles supports my and socrhound's postition, and is AGAINST yours. Plus, if you have been following MLS before this year, you would know that, if anything, MLS does NOT sell its players overseas so easily, to the detriment of the individual players and the USMNT. It only sells (and rightfully so, in my view) when it's a good business decision. And by the way, do you think that Boca Juniors and River Plate sell their best players to support the the national team? No. They sell them when it makes business sense, just like MLS.

When i watch a Metros game i dont watch it to see who can be the next young US NT player in the making. I watch Metro games because i eat, sleep and breath MetroStars soccer no matter how stupid that might sound you. I dont pay $16 every home game so that the US will win a World Cup. Yes i love the US Nats and hope they win every game they play in but to say that the MLS were solely founded so that the Nats have players to choose from is absolute garbage. Now lets look at the mission statement once more. Did you fail to read the first five entries in the statement where the US Nats is never even mentioned.
