    Special Announcement for 2004 MetroMembers
Saturday's Meet the Team Day Postponed

After significant feedback from our MetroMembers, the MetroStars have postponed Saturday's "Meet the Team" Day. The holiday weekend created a conflict for the majority of our MetroMembers and led to a disappointing R.S.V.P. rate. The event, which was scheduled for Saturday, April 10 at Giants Stadium from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., will be rescheduled on a date that is more convenient for the majority of our MetroMembers. That date has yet to be determined.
"The "Meet the Team" Day event is one of the special, exclusive benefits for our MetroMembers, and we wanted to ensure the opportunity for our members to experience the event," said Executive Vice President John Guppy. "The rescheduled date will also allow us to showcase our full squad of players, including Sergio Galvan-Rey, Cornell Glen and Gilberto Flores."

Saw this earlier. Damnit I was on my spring break too. I'm in ESC but not a MetroMember. Funny how they seem to mention it as if it were only for MetroMembers and not ESC members.

Dude, it normally is for Metromembers only. At least it was last year.

The reason why people aren't RSVPing is because it's only a simple meet & greet. I'm not a hero-worship kinda guy so I'm not going to the "Meet the Team" day this time. Last year, Metromembers had the chance to watch the "New Tradition" Metrostars play an exhibition game against the Rochester Rhinos right before the season started.
I don't make a habit of bustin the Front offices balls.., but is this simple meet 'n greet is supposed to be a great incentive to buy season tickets?

First, it was a closed 90 minute practice, with a meet the team event afterwards. It wasn't just a "go shake hands with dudes" event. Just to get that out there.

Second, MFO do it as a perk because there are some people that like it. You don't have to go, and I think saying stuff like 'This isn't incentive enough for me to buy tickets' is kind of missing the point (not attacking anyone personally). They don't do stuff like this to get ESC guys to buy season tickets, just like they didn't do MPF to wow the ESC guys into realizing that we'd made the playoffs. This is an event that they do because some people like it, and it is an incentive that matters to some people. Likely most of them are the people that sit at midfield and only clap for goals, the people many of us never meet. But hey, without 13,000 of them we wouldn't have a league.

Third, it was a metromember only event, but after the ESC asked, MFO allowed 2004 ESC members go to. So, saying that ESC members weren't allowed is just inaccurate. I don't look at it as their job to advertise that ESC members can go, I look at that as the ESC's job. E-mails were sent to members about the event, and it was mentioned on a number of occassions, both here and at watch parties.

Personally, I wouldn't go if it was just a meet the team event. But, if you told me I could spend 90 minutes watching guys like Galvan, Taylor, Guevara and Gaven practice, I'd be there. Is there anyone who considers themselves a "fan" of the team who wouldn't want to watch that? I would hope not. Now, getting out to GS on a non-match day is a major pain for some people, so I can understand not wanting to wait for local NJT buses and crap to get out there.

So, there you go. If it's not your cup of tea, don't go. If you are going to bag on it, let's please have the facts straight.

Will ESC members be invited or notified as well of the future practice session date?

Sure! I'll let you know. (Im a season tix holder)

The event has always been VERY popluar with the families. It's always interesting which player has the longest lines for autographs.

I remember Digi sitin with his girlfriend (Hi!) with nobody on line last year. Of course I think he just was signed to the team days earlier.

I was at only one autograph session back in 2000, which was held right after a match in the "bubble". It was a madhouse.

The only player who didn't show-up was Lothar (not surprisingly).
