Even though MFO hasn't gone out of their way to promote the game, there should still be a decent crowd there. There's less TV coverage, all tickets are the same price (midfield seats are 25 instead of 36) and it's the only final Metros have ever been to. Even casual fans would go to this game. I wouldn't be suprised if the attendence rivaled the home opener.

MSG hasn't announced anything about covering the game. http://www.msgnetwork.com/metrostars.jsp

    1. Night games draw better than day games.
    2. So what. Ever notice all the kids at the baseball playoff games?
    3. So what
    4. Exactly
    5. Again, so what. Baseball prices higher and kids go.
    6. The real reason.
    7. Average fan doesn't know.
    8. Maybe
    9. Same prices and parking for football, but they get 80,000.
    10. Not true but I know what you mean.

All tickets to the game are $25 (save discount ESC tix), which means anyone can sit anywhere in the stadium for the same price.

NBC. Bob Costas will do play-by-play, with Christopher Sullivan as color commentator. Jim Gray will work the sidelines on Wednesday.

Re: Re: Metro-Fire US Open Cup Final Attendance Prediction Thread

They did tonight (Fri.) on the Metro Soccer Report.

And I do love the way they steadfastly call the team just, plain METRO, as in the METRO vs. EARTHQUAKES graphic showing the final score from last weekend.

Shepp basically called Landon a brat who's likely to get his clock cleaned by one of the league goalies. He'll probably get a flag on that one, but it's just the kind of talk MLS needs to get the message to the great, unwashed: soccer is not about ballet and flower arranging.

11,500. 11,000 of which will be courtesy of ESC's efforts.

Chicago pulled in 38,845 for their return to SF. Friday night is better than Wed., and you'd expect a bump for the home-coming, but that's a heck of a bump.

We really need to see 20k or else were just treading water in a sea of soccer indifference. If local fans will only show up in force for the likes of ManU once in a blue moon, forget about it.

Move the team to Harrison. :)

    Candlelight and soft music anyone?

"So an intimate crowd that would have looked good on television compacted at Rutgers will appear embarrassingly small in cavernous Giants Stadium."

I'm revising my attendance prediction down to 7,000.

"APRIL 7, 1929 A crowd reported to be more than 20,000 was at Dexter Park on the Queens-Brooklyn border to see New York Hakoah win the title from the St. Louis Madison Kennels. It remains the largest crowd to watch an Open Cup final." - From NY Times article (10/14/03)

Would be great to break that record ... but it ain't gonna happen. My prediction is 13,500.

FYI, MFO - THERE'S NO YANKEES GAME ON WEDNESDAY.

If you guys can't sell this area on the fact that the Yanks aren't the only team going for a national championship, you should all be shot.

I'm a Cubs fan, so my attendance is predicated on Prior outpitching Pavano tonight.

?? There IS a Yankees game tomorrow, will be at 8pm if the Cubs win it tonight.

And if you wont go if the Cubs are playing tomorrow, dont critzicize anyone else for not going because of baseball either.

Funny, he stated his ATTENDANCE is predicated on the Cubs not playing. And he lives in NYC.

    How many?
    How about how strong?
How about how much they care?
How about how long we have waited?

We will play through your G##dman gridiron lines.
We will play whether it is raining, snowing..
We will play whether the Yankees are on or not.

We will play if the parking admission is too much.
We will play if it is on TV or not.
We will play if some lame local official shows up thinking he's gonna throw the first ball out.

We will cheer the team on our feet,
Sing Happy Brithday to Steve Jolly when he comes out
Give Clint yet another chance if Bob see fit
    Marvel at Guevara's footwork
Applaud every save Johnny Walker makes.
Scream at the top of our lungs on every Metro Goal!!

We will win this Damn Cup, whether it is called the Thomas Dewars Cup, The Lamar Hunt Cup or the Joe Franklin Cup!
    This is our shot.
    This is big time!

And if only 50 other people show up, I will be there with my regulars and we will be ready for the most glorious moment in Metro history.

How many? Gridiron lines? MFO lack of promotion? Broadcast? Landon is a putz? So what!

All of these complaints, rants and legitimate outrage pale before the sight of Metro entering the first real championship match ever.

    How many?
If it's just me and you, fine. I will be there and I fully intend to watch Metro play the game as if their very life depended on it.

Chicago, bring all 38,000 of you down....
    Doesn't matter.
We'll sit opposite you and watch you Chi-Town losers pack your bags and go back home.
Cuz we will win the Damn Cup.

    How many?

11 - That's how many it will take, maybe 3 more and that's it. Done. Our cup now!

Ah, that I didn't notice. You've got me there. I'd just like to say that there are a lot of baseball playoff games, but not a lot of Cup Finals.

    FCUK YEAH!!!!!

That was inspirational.... I almost jumped out of my chair and screamed FCUK YEAH MAN!!!!

We have to win that damn game... i dont care what happens.. even if i have to run on the field and body slam Razov to the ground, strip him of the ball, pick it up and throw that $hit into the back of the net myself... hopefully i wont have too!

    FCUK the MFO
    FCUK the NJSEA
    FCUK Giants Stadium
    FCUK the police(public enemy excerpt)
    AND FCUK THE FIRE FCUKS!!

This cup is coming home to where it belongs and no Fire fcuk shall leave with it!!

  25. Given the MFO's track record, 10,001 would be nice. Is that wishful thinking?
