http://www.detcityfc.com/news_article/show/515552?referrer_id=1533258 The skies may have been clear above Cass Tech Friday night, but it was raining goals. Kicking off the NPSL season, Detroit City FC rallied to a 3-2 win against AFC Cleveland. Le Rouge took down their Rust Belt Derby rivals in front of a packed crowd of 3,012 fans.
Gentry Voted 2015 Global Scarves Supporter of the Year The NPSL is proud to announce that Detroit City FC supporter and Northern Guard Supporters co-founder Drew Gentry has been named the 2015 Global Scarves Supporter of the Year. Gentry, a graphic artist by trade, received the award as a result of online voting by NPSL fans and supporters. “Since our founding in 2012, Drew has personified the motto of Detroit City: Passion for our City, Passion for the Game,” Detroit City FC Co-Owner Alex Wright commented. “No supporter section in the NPSL is more passionate than the Northern Guard and Drew is their beating heart. The award is well-deserved.” Gentry is one of the original founding fathers of the Northern Guard Supporters along with last year's Co-Supporters of the Year, Gene and Ken Butcher. Gentry has been at the helm of the visual identity of the Northern Guard since day one. “I’m honored to be selected as someone that the general supporter cultures of the NPSL have voted as Supporter of the Year,” Gentry added. “I congratulate each finalist for their passion and challenge them to continue to love their club with everything they have. To the faithful of Detroit City FC: this award is as much yours as it is mine and I accept it only on your behalf.” Gentry asked that any prize or award be donated to the Ruth Ellis Center in Highland Park, Michigan and the league honored that request with a $150.00 donation in Gentry’s name. The Ruth Ellis Center (REC) is a youth social services agency that serves the needs of runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth. Their mission is to "provide short and long-term residential safe space and support services for runaway, homeless, and at-risk lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender, and questioning youth." The REC is the only organization in the country that has a residential program for LGBTQ youth in the foster care and juvenile justice system, and is mission-specific to LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness.
DCFC announce plans to move to larger stadium with intentions of going pro soon. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sp...y-fc-wants--move--hamtramck-stadium/71999716/
http://www.dailydetroit.com/2015/09...s-approved-will-begin-renovation-new-stadium/ City of Hamtramck, and old Keyworth stadium, because the plans were approved on Wednesday. In a statement, DCFC co-owner Sean Mann said “We greatly appreciate Hamtramck Public Schools seeing the potential of this public private partnership and working with us to bring the rehabilitation of Keyworth Stadium one step closer. It is exciting for us as an organization to not only find a new home that will allow us to continue to grow, but in the process add years to life of a historic venue that has created priceless memories in this community for generations.” Echoing Mann’s enthusiasm about the project, HPS Superintendent Thomas Niczay said in a statement, “Hamtramck Public Schools is confident that the Keyworth Stadium renovations will enhance the quality of life in our city. The renovated stadium will provide a generous amount of access for HPS athletic programming and community recreation activities in a first class facility.”
This might be the most important paragraph in that article, and might explain why Dan Duggan is talking to NASL and his brother hasn't helped him get a stadium. "The team has had loose talks with a group under Pistons owner Tom Gores, who might be interested in investing in Detroit soccer." Even though it's a 'might,' having the a ownership group backed up by the Pistons is a pretty big deal, and would give DCFC the type of owners that USL is attracting of late
If rumors of a Duggan NASL bid attempt are true he seems to be trying to get some relevance and block a future DCFC NASL bid possibly. Don't see NASL going with Duggan, a Detroit City FC NASL expansion club seems more likely and a better fit for the NPSL club.
How? I hear this, mainly from the DCFC faithful. They have between 2,000-3,000 fans or so. Why would that naturally translate to becoming NASL and success there?
Something like NASL being authentic and DCFC is authentic so naturally they need to be together. That's the argument for it in a nutshell.
http://www.modeldmedia.com/devnews/DetroitCityFCKeyworthKickoff.aspx Detroit City FC is preparing to kick off what it's estimating to be the largest community-financed project in U.S. sports history, the renovation of its future home, Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.
So, every other taxpayer funded building/renovation project for athletics isn't "community-financed?" What's that called then?
Yeah, I'm definitely not a journo but maybe the article should have called it all "voluntary" instead???
wow...pretty impressive: http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sp...ty-fc-spearheads-stadium-renovation/76593970/ In one month, they’ve already raised nearly $250,000 from more than 125 investors, putting their goal well within reach. The ownership group won’t gain access to that money until they’ve passed the $400,000 mark, but the club, which has seen its annual revenue triple in four seasons, from $170,000 to an estimated $520,000 in 2015, will use its own reserves to begin construction soon.

Detroit City FC@DetroitCityFC 2h2 hours ago We did it. We reached $400K, allowing us to move forward with Keyworth Stadium renovations
http://www.crainsdetroit.com/articl...-raises-400000-to-go-ahead-with-stadium-rehab Another $350,000 is needed to pay for the entire first phase of renovations, the team said. The money will pay for structural improvements to the grandstands, and fixing bleachers, locker rooms, restrooms and lighting. Work is expected to be done in time for the club to begin its season in mid-May.
