    heh..

Mid-table Serie B side Messina are close to bankruptcy, which could hand Avellino a reprieve from the third tier.

These are bleak times on the east coast of Sicily with Messina headed for the second financial collapse in the club’s history.

The Biancoscudati bounced back from the abyss after reforming in 1993 and were in Serie A between 2004 and 2007, but relegation took its toll on the coffers.

There were two possible saviours who were tipped with takeover bids, but they have now both pulled out, leaving the club with weeks to save their place in Serie B.

The beneficiaries of Messina’s collapse would be Avellino, who would be reinstated in the Second Division after last term’s narrow relegation.

Meanwhile, the stricken side’s players are being lined up by more affluent second tier sides in a Serie B feeding frenzy.

They are in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. This means they are in the 4th highest tier in Italy, the lowest league with a pro status.

If they do what Fiorentina did in 02/03 and are allowed to skip a tier, they can make it back to Serie A in 2 years time.

Have money but mostly have the Serie A League president (back then it was Adriano Galliani I believe ) grace them a tier. That is why back in the early 00's Fiorentina went from the Serie A in 2001/2002 to the C2 in 2002-2003. They played a year in the C2 and won it with Rigano and DiLivio (even the DiLivio got his leg broken ) and then were allowed to skip a tier I believe by Galliani & Co. The won promotion to the Serie B skipping the C1 and then they made up another bogus rule for them allowing Fiorentina another chance to make it up to Serie A when they played a bottom level Serie A playoff game with Perugia. This relegated Perugia and won Fiorentina promotion back up to the Serie A in 2004-2005. I was working for them in 02/03 , this is why I know....
