Well, there was that whole Columbus to Las Vegas fiasco... maybe he had an early line on it........ I was telling one of my friends during the playoff run that I thought he would be gone at the end of the year. It's nice to say that he wants to be able to afford for his wife to quit her job and move to Columbus with him, but his kids/grandkids(?) were not going to be coming too. So two jobs being equal in pay, which would you take as a Coach AND a Father/Grandfather(?): the one close to your family or the one half a country away?
If we're going to play hardball, then let's make that Evans and allocation money. Either we pay Chad Marshall what he wants or we buy GBS' salary back down to below DP level so we can give someone else a raise.
I totally agree with your synopsis.....Columbus was a stepping stone for an unemployed coach. Let's celebrate the fact that he rebuilt the team and won the cup. He deserves credit and our thanks. Now let's move on and continue the battle....with our Polish rifle.
I'm not going to say that this isn't fishy because it is but it's a bit of a stretch to say that Seattle wouldn't be looking at Alonso if not for Sigi. Alonso did play much of the year with Charleston who at some point would have played Seattle. It's very possible that in the course of scouting the Battery, Seattle could have taken an interest in Alonso before Sigi came into the picture. That said, any more "coincidences" such as this will add fuel to the tampering charge fire.
Supporters may get metaphysical about there connection to a team, but to coaches, staff, and players, it is their livelihood, the way they pay the bills, it's a job. Coaches and players maneuver for advantage, for a better team, a better salary, or more playing time. Teams bring players and coaches in, and they move them out. If you end up at Man. U., Juventus, or Barca then you probably have the best of everything and you feel like staying there forever, but there comes a time when you can't get the playing time, or the money, and you move on. It's a business, not a religion.
Would it be out of line to say he's the SweetOwnGoal of the Crew boards, taking life WAAAAAY too seriously?
If you follow the comments in Bill's blogs with any regularity, this Canuckistani asshat will earnestly proclaim all manner of things unsavory about Bill and the Crew. He's like the SoccerAndy of Canuckistan. It's cheap entertainment to lay out bait for him and watch him lecture and justify being ultra-serious.
ahh... do follow his blog and read the comments. Never really noticed a recurring pattern, but do seem to recall the name now.
