Lazio and Valencia have held talks over the future of Gaizka Mendieta.

The midfielder is currently on loan at Barcelona, but is still owned by the Italian club. However, they still owe Valencia the final £8 million instalment of the transfer fee which they paid for the player in 2001.

Lazio are apparently willing to allow Mendieta to join Valencia in exchange for not having to pay off this money.

However, according to Marca, Valencia are not happy with this and they'd like either the full transfer rights of Darko Kovacevic (owned by Lazio), or the £8 million.

"The encounter was positive, we have discussed the future situation," a Lazio source apparently said.
"Both sides have expressed the intention to solve the problem and they will return to further look at the matter in a few weeks."
