Well, we are 2 for 2 in the rain department for 2003 Menace matches. Threat of rain kept people away, cold and slight rain drove some fans away early. At the 75th minute the rain came down harder. Now onto the match: Menace looked pretty good tonight. Just need more time together to gel. Menace went up 1-0 in the 3rd minute due to an own goal. Not sure how it happened as i was buying a long sleeve t-shirt at the time (damn cold). In roughly the 54th minute Stephen Shirly made a good run but bounced off the far post. A minute later he connected up with last years PDL leading scorer Tomas Boltnar who continued his ways when he blasted a one touch into net putting the Menace up 2-0 which would be the final score as they win their first US Open Cup qualifier.
One other thing to note, Menace started a keeper who wasn't even on the website's roster. Kid looked pretty good getting the clean sheet. Actually looked better than Warren van Westhuizen, the guy that played the first half vs Wizards that I didn't think looked that good. Oh and thats 19 consecutive regular season match wins in a row now.
Attendance was 3064. Exactly 20 people more than last years home opener, which by the way was also not under ideal conditions.
Just want to say "thanks" for your posts on the Menace. One of these days I'll drive out from Davenport and catch a match. I was really looking forward to the new stadium....
