The weather is warm, the sky is a little cloudy but rain should hold off, little humid but it's Iowa, the Menace street median signs are everywhere, Sports section had an article on the front page (only pushed to the bottom thanks to Larry Gone Wild), and the 4K is being talked about... it's game day, I can't wait to get off work! Go Menace! BTW.. 7pm kickoff.. the newspaper is wrong.
Hour before the game, in true Iowa fashion, the clouds darken the rain starts coming down and doesn't let up until after the first half. Menace lose 5-3. Spent the first half playing into a fierce wind that disappeared when they switched sides at half. :/ Still some entertaining stuff. Decent crowd given the weather. Backline needs work but they havent had a lot of time together yet. Boltnar and Nickel looked good offensively.
Good Showing for the Menace. The Wizards continue to score and give up goals. I got there for the second half, after the Urbandale-Indianola Varsity and JV matches. It just sprinkled for the 4:45 varsity match and the second half of the Menace game, but I got drenched during the JV game.
highlights! Okay, so what was the scoreline and the highlights? Also, have any exact attendence figures? I was thinking about driving out, only a sick 11 month-old put the kabosh on that. Wish I could have been there.
Re: highlights! 5-3 Highlights: Boltnar bending the ball on a free kick which the keepr couldn't handle and Nickel put it in net for their first goal in the 19th minute. The Wizards,where they ran the ball up the left side of the field crossed it to the other side of the box where Taylor Graham headed the ball to Chris Brunt who headed the ball into the net to make it 4-1 Menace finale goal by Armin Mujdzic who got the ball inside the box, made a quick turn and blasted it in the far lower corner of the goal. Attendance: 3,602 despite the pouring down rain. However about half of that crowd left at halftime.
highlights! That goal was fantastic! We were hanging out along the railing on the "other side" and saw the cross coming over and then the headers. We all had the same feeling it was going in as we realized the cross was coming over perfectly... Good for Brunt on the goal, but he got schooled a couple times on D...

The Brunt goal and the run and passes leading up to it were definitely a highlight. I was standing by the railing at the time. My son and I looked at each other and both said, "NICE".
What was the lineup for the Wizards? And for Des Moines? Wondering if the Menace were playing the regular players getting ready for the season to start.
Liberal substitution. Klein and Garcia were in Houston. Preki and Meola didn't play. Goode played keeper in the second half; I had two other games to catch before this one, and got there just after half. Zotinca, Arnaud, Friedland, Brunt and a lot of the reserves got time.
