Folks, Pablo Mauer just posted his revisiting of the epic 2012 DCU v. Laughing Cow playoff match at Laughing Cow Arena-- both nights of it. This, alone, was worth my subscription to The Athletic. https://theathletic.com/2477939/202...-thierry-henry-mls?source=user-shared-article Note the comments from players (even Cows!) about how DCU completely got into their heads when the match was snowed out. And the embedded NBCSN highlights (with Arlo White doing play-by-play) are equally epic. No better way to start a week. Enjoy.
Ben was presented with his DCU "marble" shirt the other day, as shown on the DCU Facebook page. Some of the anti-Ben comments on that FB post were just jaw-dropping. Unbelievable. A great coach? Hardly. A DCU legend? Until the end of time. I challenge those Ben-bashers on Facebook to read Pablo's article (link previous) and then tell me about their overall opinion of Ben. Dickholes.
It's hard to blame the fanbase for not caring about the history of the club when the Front office doesn't. I'd be surprised if half of the people who filled the seats of Audi Field have ever seen Ben Olsen play.
MLS Cup 2018, MLS Cup 2019, MLS Cup 2020, MLS Cup 2021, MLS Cup 2022, MLS Cup 2023, MLS Cup 2024, MLS Cup 2025, MLS Cup 2026, MLS Cup 2027... Thx, Jay!
I dunno, the last half of the 2019 season, the new stadium was quite empty. All the Rooney noobs were gone and there were hoards of empty seats everywhere. Those people weren't fanbase and prolly don't even remember ever to a soccer game. And the people bitching about Ben, now are just shitbags who are bitching because thats what they think they should do. I believe the one that was suspected missing is the Inter American Cup.
Yeah I think you're on to something in sports culture in general. People are so insecure and childish that they refuse to be associated with anything that are currently "losers." Therefore, they must berate and belittle those associated with losing and attach themselves to those who are wining. This can also be seen on a larger scale with the weird MLS bashers that need to comment on every MLS media post. Probably just a long chain of dad induced "YOU ARENT A LOSER JIMMY YOURE A WINNER" trauma. The human psyche can be so fragile to those who are not self aware.
There was a time when soccer supporters formed their identities around their team's constant underperformance. It was a point of pride (to an extent). There are those of us that still seem to have that mentality but it isn't what drives new season ticket sales.
Aside from an epic win, two things stood out for me: The pleasure of seeing one of the great punks of all time walking off with a red - Marquez! The moment was too big for Henry, plane and simple. He froze.
I have never once seen him come off any other way in any situation. My wife is still pissed about that 1st postponed game - we all risked our lives to bus up and they whined and moaned and postponed it for no real reason and sent us back on by-then even more dangerous roads home. Had they played, the trip home many hours later would have been on more plowed roads and been much safer. We couldn't come back the next day which made it even worse.
Sorry, Copa InterAmerica ... so they actually didn't lose the Inter American Cup, I just translated it to English.
