I just barely became a season ticket holder, and I've heard a lot about the Meet the Team event. Does anyone know when it will be held this year? What goes on at the event? (obviously meeting the team, and cowbell, but what else happens?)
Meet the team This last year it was held at Dave and Busters sometime in early August (I think). The team sat at tables in one of the private rooms. Ticket holders lined up and walked through meeting the players. They had promo photos that they signed for the ticket holders or would sign something you brought in. When you turned in your ticket, you got a game card with a few points (5.0 points). DCU had set up an equipment sale. All the players had sharpy pens to sign whatever was brought in. It was all pretty cool. Although I remember it being crazy hot outside at the equipment sale.
Basically the official meet the team is an autograph line. You walk through and don't have much time to talk. They will sign almost anything. Especially if you surprise them with an authentic or replica jersey with their name on it...Right GDopplarXT? I highly recommend going to the unofficial meet the teams, which are also known as the after game parties. These are much less formal and allow you to actually interact with players. Depending on the game they are in good moods or really ticked off. Although, at the Dave & Buster's event, after the program was over the team came out and played some different games. They were quite approachable during this time. Prideaux kicked my butt at the basketball game...
Absolutely. The player whose shirt I was wearing seemed fairly surprised, as if he couldn't believe someone would actually wear a shirt with his name on it. I agree completely. There were quite a few really good official 'Post-Game parties' last year, and the players for the most part were very gracious, even after the losses. Lots of DC Staff and occasionally coaches, too, who are invariably entertaining as well.
My husband had the first replica Convey jersey that he'd ever seen. Mike was spotted at a tailgate by none other than Bobby's mom who proceeded to drag Bobby out of Kevin Payne's SUV to sign it for us. I'm pretty sure that Bobby's mom was about 5 times as tickled as we were. It was great.
Seconded. There was a nice series of these events last year near the end of the season where you could knock back a few and chat with the boys. Ali Curtis was especially gracious and generous with his time.
