Medicaid Power to the States

    "States would win sweeping new authority to remake Medicaid — cutting or increasing benefits, adding or dropping patients — under a proposal President Bush will send to Congress."

    I love this part...

    "As an enticement, participating states would get extra federal money over the next several years — though their payments would be reduced down the line to make up for it. Bush is proposing an extra $3.25 billion next year and $12.7 billion over seven years. Federal spending would drop by equal measure in the following three years. At that point, Bush will no longer be president and many of today's governors will be out of office, too."

    I haven't had time to look at this in depth yet, so I'll save any major comments, but god it looks shitty on the surface.

    My wife, who works on Medicaid programs, described the reactions she saw to Bush's plan as "heads exploding". I should get her to post her thoughts. Nah, she'd get an immediate red card.

    It looks like the plan might have a few flaws... :rolleyes:
