Since we're out of home & away games it's time to sledge the media a little.... Today: Yea! Photo of Clint Mathis! Boooo! Identifying him training with the Scottish Rangers, from Glasgow. Sigh. (They are the Glasgow Rangers, one the world's biggest clubs). Next, the Broncos face the American Raiders, from Oakland. RLH
Re: Re: Re: Media Time I'm loving it. I won our football pool this week. I picked them Broncos. Yeah!!
Any press is good press? So, on Fox 31 News on Saturday night, there was a whole spot about the Rapids. Specifically, about the Rapids Black & Blue calendar, which at one point the Rapids had resorted to giving away, but now apparently they're working hard to sell them again. I have to say, on the one hand I'm sort of happy, because it was great to see the Rapids get that much air time--and during the off season at that!---but on the other hand, for those of you who didn't see it, I was less than pleased that they were taking the "Beefcake calendar make great Christmas present for the little wifey" approach. During the piece they had Chris Henderson giving his usual stellar humanitarian spiel about helping out the community. And then they had Chris Carrieri essentially saying (and this is NO EXAGGERATION, just a paraphrase), "I work out a lot, and if I get a chance to show off my body, sure, I'll be glad to take off my clothes. Actually, they did the shoot with me wearing this tiny little G-string, but apparently that was to provocative for the calendar's audience, so they painted those shorts on me in postproduction." Ah, Chris---modest as a shrinking violet! Gotta love it. After the segment aired, Shaul Turner said to Phil Keating, "Well, you know what I want for Christmas now!" And Phil said, "Season ticket to the Rapids?" And she replied, "Uh, no. I meant just the calendar." "That's it---you're getting the calendar AND season tickets!" Final comment: I'm sure plenty of you will disagree with me, but I think the calendar is a pretty good promotion. I actually bought one about a month after they started selling it, and I've given several as gifts. I hope that having a spot on Fox will sell some more calendars---though this is unlikely in my opinion, as Fox 31's website gives the Rapids old contact info.
Re: Re: Any press is good press? No joke. They were giving them away at the game and I said, "Sweet and Rapids Calendar!" so I took two. They didn't come home with me. Maybe for next year they can actually be playing soccer in those pictures and I might be willing to buy them. Until then they'll only be hitting that market who likes men.
