Enough of the media ignoring soccer or listing results in a tiny []. Not only the NY Times ignored the HDC grand opening, also the Las Vegas Review Journal, and we are neighboors! What I invite everyone to do is to contact the news papers and request more soccer news. Please list the web addresses that you want us to contact and send an e-mail. For now, here goes the LVRJ: gibes@reviewjournal.com Executive Director
ilidav, seriously bro...settle down. sure media coverage is STILL not up to par, but this year (in terms of coverage) has been better than EVER. i mean FOX basically has a channel that is close to 50% devoted to American soccer. i mean not only does it show MLS games, A-league games, MLS wrap-up, but even their canadian news broadcast gives MLS some worthy coverage. i mean even their soccer analyist has some idea about what he's talking about. i'm not going to sit down and say all of America knows now how great soccer is but when i get bothered that NY Times doesn't cover the HDC opening, i take a seat and read the 10+ articles that are written in other newspapers. eventually soccer fans are going to be catagorized as cry-babies and whining sports nazies, if we keep up this shite. we just have to accept the realities. ESPN and Mass Media is the Enemy. FOX (Sports World that is, O'reilly can eat me) and the Washington Post are our Friends. okay? okay.
I agree to some extent. You are lucky you live in a city where there is a team and can count on KCAL. Some of us don't have that luxury (I rather pay a mortgage here though). All we get to see it's the college soccer in the news paper not even on television. Thank God for Direct TV. By the way, I am sis not bro. LOL LOL!! Iliana
i have around 100 papers listed in my us soccer media directory... don't forget to write them a thank-you just click on it in my signature
New York/Long Island www.newsday.com www.nytimes.com www.nydailynews.com www.nypost.com I'm all for it. I wonder if some of these papers even know that we have a professional soccer league.
I fear for the mental health of any person who has to consciously note to everyone else that he or she is laughing out loud twice in rapid succession.
Re: New York/Long Island news day runs ap pieces online the times runs plenty of stuff and even had something on the home depot center... not that they haven't touched on it before... jack bell and a few others provide coverage the daily news ran a story today... they run a few soccer stories each week... michael lewis, formerly of SI, provides coverage ny post provides coverage of home metros matches... brian lewis is their writer all of these (save newsday) and many more in the ny/nj area are listed in my directory... with plenty of contact info... try and actually check it out instead of acting like there is a gigantic bias against us
Even without the media coverage....we got 27,000 in a brand new stadium in California. We have a brand new one being built in Texas. We already have one in Columbus. The people who we need to know about this, know. And the people, towns, investors etc in Chicago, Harrison, DC ...they know too. and when they see a gate of 27,000 .... $$$ can be seen in their eyes ....and that helps us all.
The problem soccer faces is that the sports media gatekeepers are a bunch of 60 year old, beer gut, baseball loving tools. Until these types retire, soccer will always be treated like the bastard step child.
Until these types retire, soccer will always be treated like the bastard step child. I agree! Lets continue to support and demand the media to talk about it, we have to sit and look at their darn commercials on tv and news papers any way. We are not asking for a favor, just for what's fair. We can all do it nicely and politically without complaining and bitching about it.
https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=53696 https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=54076 And I don't see why the opening of a stadium should be a priority for a newspaper in New York. Yes, it goes beyond LA and all that, but it's not like they ignored it. They just didn't fellate it the next day like LA did. Quite frankly, I can live with that.
I could not have stated it better. I watched Sportscenter Saturday and not one word mentioned the opening of the HDC. What will it take for those fossils to wake up? Probably never will.
