Better than Metrostars, or MetroStars, whatever. One of the worst names that modern marketing technique has come up with, marginally worse than Dallas Burn, marginally better than DC United. (Unless I'm wrong about DC not being an amalgation of other teams.)

However, "Metros" is a great name. Stylish, cosmopolitan, and at the same time regional. And, if they make a switch they'd have a merchandising bonanza.

    Or maybe a bonanza-let.

They're not too sharp on the merch angle though; I spent an hour before the Open Cup final trying to but a Metros scarf, no luck. F'ing cold too.

But Manchester United and Celtic refer to the club, not to the actual player. Amado Guevara is a MetroStar or perhaps Metro, and plays for a team named the Metrostars or Metros. A player for ManU is a Red Devil, the team can be referred to as the Red Devils, likewise Bhoy and Bhoys.

Anyway enoguh of the whining and I agree with you, the fans and press can decide what we want to call them, personally I prefer Metros though I sometimes use Metro as well. Whatever floats your boat.

even worst John Harkes always calls it NY Metrostars, he did it again on the MLS Wrap last Saturday

in many cases Metro is reffered to the subway, if you say Metros there is a clear dinstinction

Although it isn't technically wrong to say Metros I much prefer Metro as most of us do I gather.
