We suffer of course. What is the World Cup without the tifosi of gli Azzurri suffering? It is the same story every four years (tow actually when accounting for the Euro championship).
Yeah, but this is another level of suffering. In the passed you suffered but were still doing the basic things right. You sat there pulling your hair out because the goal didn't come until the 80th minute, but there was some creating going on. Maybe you hit the post or their keeper made some fantastic saves. This suffering is another beast, you sit and watch wrong decision after wrong decision. The ball should be passed on the inside and it's passed on the outside where it's easily intercepted. The player should pass off the ball to his open teammate and he goes for the spectacular and tries to turn and beat two defenders. This suffering is something else, because once we approach the box we look like a freaking community team and just make the wrong choice each and every single time.
But did we not hit the post the last match? Did not the New Zealand keeper make some big saves? If Montolivo puts it one inch to the right, we are talking about the goal of the Cup. Let's just hope that some luck turns our way and the momentum shifts our way. This is a game of luck. Watch the US goal from yesterday and if not for the Algerian defender kicking the ball from his goalkeeper, the US goes home. Instead, they top the group.
We'll see what happens, but as far as I'm concerned this is the worse Italy I've seen in a very long time. The mess up even the simple things.
Italy didn't look that great in their first 2 games 4 years ago. They don't look good in their first 2 games for almost every world cup I can remember.
They won the first game two - nill, and the attack created plenty of meaningful attacks. If I'm not mistaken Toni hit the post twice in that match. The second game they played in 10, so that right there makes it hard to compare to the match with New Zealand. I will say it again, while we've suffered in the past there is no comparing this attack to others. In the past you suffered but the attack was functional. Toni in 2006 was opening spaces, hitting the post in every match, and forcing keepers into making saves. Do we really want to compare that to this attack, where we've had 3 shots on goal, all from Montolivo? You guys need to look past numbers and look at how they are moving on the pitch.
Italy hasn't won any game in 2010. lol The thing is even if we advance, we will most likely face Holland. Hopefully Sneijder will not be harsh like in 2008 when he and his team mates tore Italy apart 3-0.
If you want to talk about suffering, it has to be 1994. That was the worst looking team despite the star studded lineup. I know because I suffered in the heat at Giant Stadium and RFK Stadium for all three group matches.
Considering both Paraguay and New Zealand basically put 11 men behind the ball...we attacked pretty well. Difficult to finish with all those opposing jerseys in the box. The problem is that we allowed early goals which allowed both teams to go into a defensive mode. In 06 we never gave up an early goal so we had more room.
This is so true. Italy would always go out with a fight and bring it to PKs. Now it seems they have to pray to go to PKs because there's nothing right going their way, mostly due to tactics.
Pazzo per Pazzini. He will start up front along with Di Natale with Pepe on the right. Gatusso takes Marchisio's spot. The rest of the lineup is the same.
I am completely with DDR...this is the worst Italy of the past 10-15 years...no creative player in NT, so depressing to watch... only one thing makes me happy - "our future captain" De Rossi...if not him, we would be sitting bottom of the table with 0 points
Dribbling Mondiale (RAI) reported from South Africa that the lineup would be the following: Marchetti Zambrotta - Cannavaro - Chiellini - Criscito De Rossi - Montolivo - Gatusso Pepe - Pazzini - Di Natale Supposedly that was officially released.
I'm sure De Rossi saves the day again today, but there's so much he can do. He needs a Totti type player ahead of him.
I'm reading that Iaquinta will start, and I don't doubt it. Marchetti Zambrotta - Cannavaro - Chiellini - Criscito De Rossi - Montolivo - Gatusso Pepe - Iaquinta - Di Natale Strange that it's taken 3 matches for the coach to start his number ten. Why didn't Lippi give the 10 to Iaquinta?
Looking at the FIFA site, they have Iaquinta starting instead of Pazzini. We'll find out soon enough.
I'm with DDR. This is going to be some painful viewing today. I feel creativity is our biggest problem so I hope Pirlo gets a run out today. Whatever happens, Forza Azzurri!
I`m pretty much convinced that at this point Iaquinta probably has his own set of keys to Lippi`s house.
