Seems like Ranieri might try a return to the old 4-2-3-1 formation this weekend. With Totti being suspended in Coppa Italia it seems Borriello will be rested. We should see a classical attacking half: Totti Vucinic - Perrotta - Menez The big question for Ranieri seems to be the central midfield pairing, as Pizarro isn't available. They speculate Greco to be favored over Simplicio at the moment. All in all an interesting experiment, shame about Pizarro not being around as he is the engine that drives the 4-2-3-1.
Uhhh, I dont know if I like this. I have lost faith in CR. I somewhat want to go back in time ans slap Sensi when she didnt sell to Soros.
Just imagine what could have been. Spalletti given the resources to take it to the next level, having lost the title on the last day heading into the new season with a proper transfer market and motivated to make that next jump.
I don't want to lose faith in Ranieri, though my faith supply on him is running dangerously low; Simply by having the squad we have this year under Unicredit with Borriello et al, I'm sure Spalletti would've won the Scudetto tat year, and we would be top of the league right now.
It's not like Spalletti really had "worse" squads at his disposal though. As much as Ranieri frustrates the hell out of me, we gotta give him some credit for what this squad managed to achieve last season, with what little they actually had to work with.
You got to be kidding me ... Spalletti got Loria, Guberti, and no strikers. Ranieri got Burdisso, Luca Toni, followed by Adriano, Simplicio, and Borriello. Heck Ranieri even got a mediocre backup for Riise, when Spalletti was forced to play Cassetti there when Tonetto was unavailable. Ranieri also had a season where Inter pissed away a 10+ point lead, along with the crumbling of key adversaries (Genoa, Fiorentina, and Juventus). Ranieri accomplished zilch last season, he played Spalletti's team and tactics and they did the work for him. After his initial experimentation, I remember a dreadful match where he changed shape 5 times, he settled on Spalletti's formation and it did the rest. Look at all the great matches last season and you will see tactically the hand of Spalletti. Through Pizarro and Vucinic, or through the runs and insertions of Brighi/Perrotta playing in the 4-2-3-1 trequartista role. The only thing Ranieri provided was the motivation Spalletti lost after several years of not being listening to in the summer market. What the heck has Ranieri accomplished. Where is his stamp on the team, this year where he's tried to make it his? His failed 4-4-2 that took 3 months to figure out wasn't working? Perrotta and Vucinic as wingers? Perrotta in a flat midfield line last weekend, instead of having him push up and pin back Palombo? How many games has he started out completely wrong, and had to attempt to correct? The only thing Ranieri did was discover Julio Sergio and teach the defense the offside trap, well except for the donkey Motta. Offensively the team has been degrading under Ranieri. We score less goals, and less players score goals. In my opinion there is simply no comparing the two, they are leagues apart as far as coaches go. There's a reason why Ranieri hasn't won squat.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. The Juve situation makes me feel (slightly) better about the state of our current team.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8Rfc7ktVBk"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8Rfc7ktVBk[/ame] Speaking of Luciano, from the days we used to play football. Now I wait 70 minutes to see Borriello score a stupid Inzaghi goal. That it's a Perrotta goal just exemplifies the difference between the two managers. Perrotta would have never in a million year become the player he's been had he had Ranieri as a coach instead of Luciano Spalletti. A mediocre career as a low central midfielder is all he would have gotten, compared to accolades of praise he received when he was at top level with Luciano.
I recall when we won 7 - 0 vs Catania under Spalletti, we put a show ..What a show it was.. pure entertainment. Cesena will be without Nagatomo, who is in ASIA cup.But they have everybody else available. Its not going to be easy, as we never do well away from olimpico.
Agree.. defently got a little emotional watching that But in this game i am really looking foward to seeing how Juan responds... Will he: -play like the champion he is and be flawless -still be damaged from last game and commit errors again Defently going to be keeping my eye out for this and also cant wait to see the old 4-2-3-1, I would put Taddei on the right wing however and put Menez as trequartista.. Totti Vuci - Menez - Taddei DDR - Perrotta
LOL that's a Calabrese for ya... Although i might get death threats for saying this.... do you think we should rest Menez this match? I love Jeremy but i kind of wanna see the good old 2007/08 Roma just for old times sake.. Totti Vuci - Perrotta - Taddei
official formation Roma: Doni, Cassetti, Juan , N.Burdisso, Riise, De Rossi, Simplicio, Menez, Perrotta, Vucinic, Totti. A disp: Lobont, Rosi, G.Burdisso, Brighi, Greco, Adriano, Borriello. All.: Ranieri. http://www.laroma24.it/archivio/349...-giocatori-in-campo-per-il-riscaldamento.html
Hope no-one gets injured today, especially in defense..hate the idea of seing baby Burdi (though he might have been better than Juan against Samp)
Mexes will be back for the Lazio Coppa game. I thought Rosi was supposed to be starting today, I was excited to be seeing a flying fullback on each flank.
