Well, the strange nature of this one is being debated fiercely on the internet tonight. Terrorism theories are popping up. Seems all the victims died of a single gunshot, indicating something of a more professional nature than some wacko spraying bullets at random (in which case you'd expect to see a few more injuries - shot to the thigh or shoulder, for example). It'll be interesting to see what develops with this...
Yes, this will be very interesting. I can't stop thinking about the possible motives for many reasons, not the least of which is that I live in Silver Spring. The local news was showing a press conference as I was getting ready for work this morning. The police chief was saying the Montgomery County police are operating on the assumption that the killer(s) is/are still in the area. He didn't say they had any reason to believe this. He also said they haven't ruled terrorism out at this point. This has none of the characteristics of what we've come to expect from psycho killers. I'm leaning towards terrorism as the most plausible explanation, and wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see something like this happen again soon in another part of the country.
not terrorism. just some pissed off or crazy guy who happened to have been a hunter. he's using a high powered weapon and shooting people at close range in calm situation. i imagine an experienced hunter would have an easy time of picking someone off in a parking lot.
A guy in my high school thought Ms. PacMan was "real life". Oh the horror! But seriously, it's not like this is the first time some whack-job ever went psycho with a gun in this country and took out a whole bunch of people. And if the NRA has its way, it sure as hell won't be the last.
It might have stopped this killer. Anyway, they don't know exactly what type of weapon was used, the last I checked. Actually, I'm talking about the extremists who dominate the NRA and want machine guns for everyone. They make responsible, non-murderous hunters look bad.
I'll take my chances with a steak-knife wielding jackass over a machine gun- or even a hunting rifle-wielding jackass anyday. Even Jackie Chan would be hard pressed to take out an entire McDonald's or a whole school with a steak knife. Anyway, unless you're one of the extremists currently in charge of the NRA, my post doesn't apply to you. If you're a regular rank-n-file NRA member, please do everyone, including yourself, a favor and get those stupid fucks outta there and get some responsible management. Thanks!
Probably not, but I'll bet changing cultural preconceptions that everybody is entitled to a gun and the means to use it just might lead to less gun crime.
Canada has more guns per capita and less crime. Michael Moore told me so. And anyone who thinks that banning guns will automatically lead to less guns may want to check out the war on drugs sometime.
