Smalling has been neat and tidy today but hes playing it very safe. This is the issues with him in the centre of a 3. You want that guy to step out and pick confident forward passes. He would be better on either side of an actual sweeper. Little detail but in tight game one or two faster passes in a game can make all the difference.
