I think teams have realized he's a threat in the offensive phase as well and are marking him much tighter.
McKennie coming off of the bench at half or minute 60 seeming quite likely, with the way things are going.
For a time Italian Soccer had a stereotype as being slow paced and defensive. In recent years Serie A has ben one of the most exciting leagues. The first half of this match fits the old stereotype.
Much better late in the first half from Juventus, Ronaldo really showed up late and got off a few shots, including a lucky near post kick save.
McKennie on for Bernardeschi minute 63. Here we go. Hopefully he can change things a bit and hold the aggregate lead.
McKennie gets a loose ball and plays Ronaldo through, but good save by Handanovic keeps it level. He's playing that "left mid on defense center forward on offense" spot.
ronaldo looking like classic era thierry henry here where he gets about a half dozen golden chances a match
How was Hakimi flying sideways through the air into McKennie incredibly hard and coming nowhere near the ball ruled a clean play? Almost led to a goal, that would have really pissed me off. McKennie over to the right side now.
Buffon is like the Granddad who still has it. Even the Inter players are loving going up against him. He's a dang institution in and of himself.
McKennie with two turnovers immediately following his own good steals. Could have done beetter on each.
70 yard sprint to chase down Perisic in the corner preparing to cross - McKennie blocks it and it goes back off Perisic for a goal kick. Gotta love that one.
Really could have taken another touch there and made a much easier pass - no rush on the counter. Too many turnovers, but great defensive hustle and some nice steals. Maybe below his standard for this season.
That was a fun game to watch - mainly because the field mics were excellent, and you could hear every player and all the bitching, with customary hand gestures. It was a well fought match, albeit a bit sloppy. Wes did well I thought, mostly with defense - had some great tackles, but the past couple of matches his passing and link-ups have been a little off. Still, he’s a crucial part of this squad for Pirlo - if not starting, he’s first off the bench usually. And now he will play in another cup final - perhaps vs Napoli. So all the Mexican fans will be talking trash about Chucky Lozano.
