A friend of mine's family used to own McEwan's Ale company, and he claims they were the shirt sponsor of a team in teh Scottish Premier years ago. Can anyone help me in finding out the name of this team? Thanks.
There were their major sponser about 3-5 years ago. They sponsered them for quite awhile(Mid 80's to late 90's). When I think of that beer, I think Ranger's.
While McEwens WAS a shirt sponsor for Rangers for years.... They ALSO sponsored Blackburn Rovers in the early to mid 90's...
Mr. Magoo, I have a Newcastle shirt with the McEwan's Lager sponsorship and a number with the proper Broon Ale logo. Let us all hope the latter returns next season. First, the Toon strip with McEwan's logo: my favorite: the blue star inside the broon ale logo:
I shoulda known Toon would be all over THAT question. Like Grampa Mick says: Newcastle Brown well you know it sure smacks you down...
I've always loved the Newcastle jerseys with broon ale sponsorship. It just works. I think I'll have one with lunch so I can reminisce.
There is a rumour (no more than that yet) that next season's sponsor will be "Northern Rock", a local bank (formerly a building society - like a US savings and loan except not insolvent!!). Most of us would prefer a return to broon ale but, as has been pointed out, walking around with "Northern Rock" printed on our chests will make us look dead hard!!
Love that shirt. Had a friend who's a Newcastle supporter, and when he showed up with that jersey, I wanted one. That blue star is just sooooo cool
Aslong as they get rid of ntl of the strip i'm happy. I dont currently own a newcastle top because i refuse to wear the disgusting ntl logo, so if there is a change i'm first down the newcastle club shop.
Nevermind the fact that half of British clubs seem to be sponsored by ntl, it is one of the ugliest logos in the history of logos. And the multi-colored scheme looks even worse when plastered on the front of jerseys. I'm glad to hear at least one team's changing sponsors.
I've heard a rumour that the guy who owns the computer company Sage is going to buy the rights and not have any sponsorship on the shirts and just have plain black and white stripes.
