    depends on the season
    According to the Washington Post

"Freedom Notes: Button confirmed that veteran midfielder Rebekah McDowell, acquired for Anne Makinen in last month's deal with the Philadelphia Charge, will not join the Freedom this season.

Although the trade with Philadelphia will not be official until Makinen acquires her green card, the Freedom coaching staff did not feel that McDowell would have been a candidate for the final 16-player roster."

(and here is jt still stinging from the loss of ms. makinen)

    North Side.
So we essentially traded Mak away for nothing?

I do believe Mak scored over the weekend when they played Nebraska.

    it's true. she scored.

but once again i must tell myself, she was unhappy and was "looking to be traded"

still she's too good of a player to hand to the charge...

I'm with you. I don't really understand the Makinen trade at all! Philly wouldn't trade Iverson because they didn't want to GIVE AWAY a good player!! BTW - has there been any news about Iverson?

Well from what I've read here and there is that she is officially retired from the league.

    Iverson is NOT in camp.

Karvellson has retired and it is annouced...

I would think Krikorian is hoping Iverson has a change of heart, however unlikely it is.

Iverson was on the 16 player roster.

As to Makinen, DC got a 2nd round pick and McDowell for Makinen.

I believe a 3rd round next year came to Philly. I would expect that to be returned to DC.

As to McDowell, she and Monroe both performed the defensive duty of hounding the other teams best midfield offensive player, a very specific role.

Monroe is still at UCLA completing this semester, so perhaps McDowell gets a good shot.

If you ever met McDowell, she's one of the most introspective shy people you'd ever meet.

Hopefully this experience wasn't as horrible as it seems.

what can ya do I guess.

    ::sigh::

like a 3rd rounder will make the roster. if there is a league next year, roster size will be down to 11. All keepers will have to coach as well as play. if people get injured, pths will be pulled from the stands to play. If they run out of pths, the mascots will play.

ok, i'm being grumpy and silly ; ) enough from me (BACK TO WORK! MIDTERMS!)

In the trade where the Charge got DC's #1 this year, the Charge still owe something back to DC, there's future considerations still owed the Freedom.

Fine. We'll take Kelly Smith. And you can have your third-round draft pick back, to boot. ;)
