He was so impressive that I'm sure Everton will try to buy him from Major League Soccer. He was impressive. Even if Everton let him go after the loan, other teams will be after him. He goal he scored was because he was in the right place and ran fast. He then beat one defender. Brian, I'm very proud of you. I know you will not come back to the Crew for the next 3 years at the very least

Good game - but one game does not a career make.

Everton has him for 3 months. It would be foolish for them to sign him to a deal after 90 minutes.

Even more foolish than you suggesting that sign him after 1 game.

Seriouosly, Joe-Max was on fire when he first joined Everton. After a few games he began to fizzle, and then eventually he died out. Everton will be sure not to relive those days with McBride.

And not for a 30 year old player.

Although his goal was great, I thought he did more or less disappear for the rest of the game - did he even get another shot on goal? An assist? Don't get me wrong - he couldn't have had a better first day and there's nothing more that a coach can ask for than to have your two strikers each score a goal, but I think we'll definitely have to give him a few months before believing he'll stay permanently in Everton blue.

Here's part of an email from an Everton supporter friend of mine who was at the match on McBride:

"Thought he had a decent enough performance - a cooly taken slot on 13 mins and full of running & effort. Nothing outstanding but then he should be praised for the effort & committment he put in. Happy to see some more of him!"

Anyway, I don't think they'll be buying him outright any time soon.

I wish I had the link but I read this AM a press report that stated he would be returning to MLS but should he make a large impression during the loan period, there was a good chance MLS would be receiving a buy-out bid at the end of his loan.
Don't know what the report was based on but it makes sense.
I would expect that he will return and then after the MLS season, someone, or Everton perhaps, will make another attempt to secure his services.
Simply depends on how the ENTIRE loan period goes.
From reading all the Everton boards I could find,
they were happy with him but it seems almost a given that Kevin Campbell will start when he is healthy again.
Rooney has 3 more games in his suspension.
McBride will have to make the most of the chances he gets if a long stay in England's top flight is what he want.

    First Game...

It was his first match... I am going to reiterate this very important point once again. He finished one chance, excellent. I hope that he does get a shot to play in the EPL full time. He deserves it. I was reading the article on Robbie Fowler and looking at how many cash strapped clubs there are at the bottom of the table in the EPL. It would be interesting if they went after some relatively cheap priced US talent ie mid level nats and see how they perform. Younger guys who are interested in making the jump... those kids in the Mathis/Klein age group. 25-28. Anyway, I think McBride will get his shot at Everton... hopefully for him.

Joe-Max's goals per minute are very similar for the Nats and for Everton. His performance for Everton was predictable. Nobody should have been surprised with his subsequent poor performance. Anyone who was surprised wasn't doing their homework.

McBride scores little less than one goal per two full matches (180 minutes, not 2 caps) for the Nats. If Everton gives him enough time, his performance is likely to remain at that level, which is FAR ABOVE Moore. Everton should take advantage of McBride and sign him, regardless of how he plays in the next few matches. I have no doubt that (barring injury) he has a few quality seasons left in him.

The bottom line is that McBride is a much better player and Everton would be making a mistake if it used Moore's performance against him.

The goal was well taken, but the rest of the match McHead looked like he was trying to figure out what to do. I'm sure the fact that he'd probably only trained with the team a couple of times before being thrown out there had a lot to do with it and lets not forget, the last competitive match he played was in the Open Cup final. However, I'm certain he'll settle in over the next few weeks. But to be completely honest, I wouldn't say this was an outstanding performance.

Then again, didn't Joe-Max Moore start out read hot at Goodison as well?

  12. Ben Reilly brings up an amazing point.... IIRC, isnt there 34 games in the EPL season? Assuming McHead would play all 34, 90 minutes apiece..at his current rate he'd score 17 goals in that season. This is just calculations, but its pretty impressive. If he even scored 10 goals a year, for what he brings outside of just scoring, he's well worth the price. The rest of his loan will be interesting to say the least. Moyes will start him if he's on fire. If he's scoring when Campbell comes back, we might see Kevin on the bench, IMHO.

actually i think it is 38... and your calculations are flawed. mcbride has scored one goal in one game. thats a goal a game. multiply that by 34 and you have... 34. ;)

but only one man in the last 10 years has had anything even near that kind of a strike record. alan shearer. i would never put brian mcbride on that pedistal.

mcbride's goal does not warrant this vast amount of rampant speculation. i am a mchead fan and i enjoy watching the man play, but i don't see him lighting the premiership on fire. he can't even light the mls on fire. i do, however, believe that he would make an adequate target forward in the epl and i agree that kevin may very well see some bench time soon. i wish brian the best.
