    McBride to Everton?

    http://www.evertonfc.com/news/article.asp?id=5593

"Meanwhile, with injuries to Kevin Campbell, Duncan Ferguson, Nick Chadwick and a three-game suspension of Wayne Rooney looming, the Goodison chief may decide to bring in a replacement striker on loan when the transfer window opens, with American international star Brian McBride touted as a possible target."

Allright, Buff or whomever, this article clearly indicates a loan spell. As a result, can you all explain when McBride would be eligible to return with the transfer windows? Wouldn't he have to wait until the end of the EPL season to come back to MLS?

Regardless, Moyes is a smart smart man.

I believe, to my understanding of the transfer rules, that he would stay through the end of the Premiership season.

Somehow, I doubt this will happen, but who knows?

What makes this latest rumor somewhat interesting to me, as opposed to some of the prior McBride to England ones, is that there is at least a quote from Moyes this time to support the premise:

Another link: http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=125853&cpid=8&title=Moyes+revels+McBride+desire"/>. Moyes with some high praise!

I wonder if the league might reward McBride for signing the contract extension by being somewhat more flexible when it comes to short-term loans? Perhaps it came up the negotiations.

Financially it makes sense for McBride, but when those other guys get healthy again it's,"Go sit where Joe-Max used to sit."

I mostly agree, but if Everton are a bona fide Euro spot contender, there will be more games. Plus, McBride won't be going to a team with a coach that doesn't believe in him.

    ???

It's only to cover for this injury crunch. By the time Everton's in the UEFA/CL, McBride will be getting yelled at by Mike Segroves on the Shootout.

Loans can be for a specified period of time (3 months, for example) so it wouldn't necessarily be through the end of the year.

i say let him go on loan until the end of the EPL season. he just signed a long-term deal to be with MLS for basically the rest of his career...why not let him get a spell in the EPL, if only for half of a season.

the only reason i see him not going; he would miss the beginning of the MLS season which would totally screw the marketing arm of MLS and the columbus crew...

...but who cares, let the guy live a dream for a few months.

    McBride to Everton?

If he does well on the load it could end up helping the crew and MLS more than it hurts, in the long run.

already 3 mentions of mcbride to everton on skysports news on fsw. reporter said that he is about to agree to a short term deal to move to everton.

mls has said in the past, that they do not loan players!!

Actually, they've said they won't take players on loan.

Last loans were Vanney and Kovalenko last offseason. One stuck, the other didn't.

i say let him play the remainder of the premiership season with everton on loan. this is a once in a lifetime shot for brian. after the kind of contract brian just signed, i can't see mls dicking him over on this.

The marketing arm of the MLS (more like a finger) will still be able to tout McBride, as he'll still officially be on the Crew roster ( and now they'll be able to talk about success in europe which they'd claim regardless of facts). JMM is not a fair comparison. JMM is a scrapper, McBride, is, well, whatver he is, but it's not the same thing. I would think, however, that he'd do a bit better in the EPL than JMM.

McBride would be a very good addition to Everton. Obviously with the return of Radz, among others, I don't know where McBride would rank. I would imagine that if McBride would have been in the top 3 in the mind of Moyes, he would have been brought in earlier. Regardless, I think he can move up to the top 3 based on his play.

JMM v. McBride is apples and oranges.

"Brian McBride could be leaving the Columbus Crew . . . but only for three months.

Just two weeks after signing a long-term extension with Major League Soccer, McBride is close to securing a loan to Everton of the English Premiership. MLS sources said minor details need to be worked out but that an agreement could be announced as early as Friday.

His first league match could be Jan. 12 against Tottenham Hotspur and its U.S. goalkeeper, Kasey Keller."

It will be nice to see McB and Rooney celebrating together.

    No Brainer

This is a no brainer for MLS, even they couldn't/shouldn't screw this up. McBride has had some time off but like he always has done will be in good fitness. He should be a little rusty on his touches but should be able to play immediately. The league will get some good press, McB will relent on his silence from not being sold for $1m, and they will look good by giving him the chance to play on the big stage.

I don't know the striker situation at Everton, only heard scraps, but you can never have too many strikers, especially due to the heavy schedule over the next three months. Also and although I'm not saying he will do it but remember that when Moyes had Brian at PNE he played 3 strikers at once. So either Brian could pair up with Radzinki and Rooney till Campbell comes back or pair up the one who is most fit. Sounds absurd but I wouldn't doubt it with Moyes.

This of course assumes McInjury doesn't occur like it always has seemed to in his career.

Hope this goes thru and best of luck to Brian-he deserves a nice short term raise.

    McBride to Everton?

    Also on Soccernet, nothing final

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=253547&cc=5901

Moyes said: 'We are interested in both players. Nothing been done yet but we are hoping to do something in the January period.

'I have worked with Brian before and also had the opportunity to see Ibrahim as well, so we have an idea of what both them are capable of producing.'

Ibrahim Said is an Egyptian that Everton is also looking to bring in
