Not a loan, permanent transfer, could be announced Monday. Like all deals, could fall apart at the last minute, but Brian is ready to go.
link please. or else close this thread. 'cause this thing was killed dead (yea, i know) a while ago. i know it says permanent deal instead of loan, but blackburn said they were not interested anymore. i'm not disbelieving, i'm just sayng, "link please!"
1) He's in camp with the US Team right now. I doubt he's there handing out towels and locker keys. 2) I am being serious here: joeyinfo is the Crew mystery man. If he is on here saying this, you might want to take it seriously.
If for a decent price, I will be quite proud of MLS/McBride for not blinking earlier...at some point, MLS had to dig in its heels on these things....would love to see it work out, although geez McFragile has had such a run w/o injuries lately, I almost expect one in the next months... I think McBride is the American Duncan Ferguson...(playing wise, not off the field...also, I think he can play right now- for another couple years- like the old Duncan)
(Duncan) I am thinking about his game overall...yeah, I think Duncan is much more the cheap shot artist than Brian, but both are big guys who are best outpowering opponents/wearing them down often in the air....not as adept with ball at feet, but surprisingly skillful for their size... I believe, like McBride, when Duncan plays, a lot more stuff starts floating in the air and aimed at his head....becomes focal point for offense.. OK, not the perfect analogy, but beats the hell out of "eddie lewis as the US Beckham/metrosexual"...
Is there any talk on the other side of the pond from the blackburn end of things? I am pretty shocked about this actually. I thought that Blackburn basically said McBride was too old for a permanent deal, and they would only take him on loan.
Just a reminder, this deal has ALWAYS been about first, the length of the deal, and then the money. If those criteria have been met, then this thing is believable. In addition, Bruce Arena continues to say that there will be a time for US players to make the move to Europe. In the past 2 weeks this has been the topic of even more casual conversation, according to folks that have been hanging around the Nats camp. Finally, a source of mine is saying that this deal has never been dead but rather been below the radar screen while all parties try to meet their own requirements. Should make for an interesting day...
FYI - Brian McBride didn't play in the U23 scrimmage. I was wondering why, now this makes more sense.
Really? At first I thought most of you guy were trying to fool people by reciting the infallibility of joeyinfo's predictions..........I guess I am yet to learn a lot about BS
He's recovering from an injury. I think he might have had surgery over the offseason. Bruce was using the callup as a chance to get some rehab time.
OK - I didn't realize that. Still, joeyinfo is about as close to infallible as it gets on BS. Well, he and rmed.
I love that there's a shadowy Crew informer named joeyinfo whose always dead-on about his information. You couldn't write better stuff. Would like to see a link on this though, I think it would be a good move for both Blackburn and the Crew.
i've never seen such universal respect for a BS poster. but, if this guy is that reliable, ask him if he knows who deepthroat is and if Oswald acted alone.
I went back and looked at some of Joeyinfo's other posts and, in fact, his track record is pretty damn good. So, I say the following not as doubting Joeyinfo's, uh, info, but just as a point of order. It's getting close to 6:00 PM in England. If it was going to be announced Monday, wouldn't it have broken in England by now? I know Joey said "could be announced Monday" but I have a hard time believing this would sit without someone in the British media getting wind of it. Hell, you know Bergin is burning up the bandwidth tracking the veracity of this puppy down! I can picture him, with a land line head set on, *#*#*# in his mouth (you know what I mean!), cell phone crooked in his other shoulder all while furvishly typing away e-mails to his various sources. If this is true, he, or one of his compatriots, is gonna get it soon. As for the move, I always sensed that the teams were just bartering. Like Jiri, I applaud them for holding their ground and, after losing Boca and Cletus for ZERO, I like seeing them get some coin for a player. It's also interesting that there is so much talk at the national team camp about Europe. I wonder how much of this has to do with the MLS salaries being released. BTW, after giving up seven goals the past three games, shouldn't B-burn be worried about securing their defense?
McBride to centre back!! Seriously, if he ever forgets how to score goals, he could probably be a mean fullback. If Big Mac goes to Blackburn, I definitely think their quality of play will improve, should he see playing time. He's the kind of guy that could grap a fair amount of goals, while also setting up tons for Cole or Yorke.
1) McBride DID have surgery and the initial prognosis was February. But he's a fitness demon who you have to drag out of the workout facilty feet first kicking and screaming so he has a history of coming back early. (Unlike, say, a Dwight Yorke who has to be pulled kicking and screaming out of pubs, taverns and lounges) 2) The interesting thing about joey (every team ought to have a joey) is that, back in November when these rumors (rumours?) started he posted over in the Crew Forum that he doubted that McBride was going anywhere. Didn't claim specific "info" but rather was expressing his opinion about it not making sense. ISTM that this lends credence to what he's saying now. 3) Am I the only one who finds it a bit absurd that most breaking news concerning the US First Division comes from a guy in York, England? 4) Souness seems to be adopting the strategy that if he could just score more goals that he wouldn't NEED a defense. 5) This is a tough year to try and get a job playing soccer in the US. First, expansion didn't happen, then A League contracted nine of nineteen teams. On top of that comes the "salary survey" which had to come as a shock to a lot of guys. ("WHAT?? That oaf makes TWICE what I get? I have him for lunch four times a year fer crissakes!!"). Our job market is reaching critical mass.
