I just don't see Everton offering the money MLS would want for BMB, especially when you see quotes from Moyes like, "Given his age we don't want to spend too much."

Moyes would say that about Freddie Adu....it's only posturing. But I think MLS overvalues most of its talent in general and that's why so few moves are made.

The Liverpool Echo, unlike most of the rags across the pond, is somewhat reliable.

"MOYES: I'D LIKE MCBRIDE TO STAY"

David Moyes has re-iterated his desire to make Brian McBride a permanent fixture in his squad.

The Blues striker could, in theory, be making his last appearance at Goodison Park this weekend unless a deal is struck between the Blues and the MLS.

the above is taken off of Everton FC's web site.

Just thought all of you Crew fans should know. Moyes and Everton FC really want McBride to stay. From a Quakes/USMNT fan it looks like great news to me. Brian gets some more excellent top flight (EPL) experience and he doesn't bother us when we beat you during the regular season. ;)

    They can have him.

If he goes, we should get an allocation.

I think Brian would want to stay no matter what the price. He has been loyal to MLS, so maybe it is time for MLS to stop thinking only about money and to start thinking about what Brian wants.

i understand what he concerned about because hiring a player (s) is bussines matter for the club, hiring younger (and talented) player will be more valuable for long term bussines

Losing Cunningham, even with all of his faults, WILL come back to bite CBus in the ass.

Let's be clear E-ton is talking extending the loan - not a contract purchase. McBride sharing could work out for the Crew, if the terms are right.

It seems doubtful that Brian would have an E-ton starting role under those circumstances, though.

A 2 year loan? Isn't that highly unusual?

Most probably partial seasons similar to this year.

E-ton is still in the UEFA cup race; isn't it? I doubt they'd want to extend his contract if they were mid-table. The article mentioned they don't want to BUY 30yr old talent...just rent it.

Garber to E-ton: Loan, that sounds like a great idea. We'll talk about it in August. By the way, do you want us to notify you when we've sold him to someone else?

Sad thing about this scenario: It would not surprise me.

I don't really know what's sad about it. If Everton doesn't want to step up to the plate and another team does, f'em.

Didn't the winter transfer period just finish a few weeks ago? If so, that would explain extending the loan until the end of the season. They could then sign him for a one-year contract during the summer transfer period.

If it is an extended loan, what's to keep McBride from coming back and playing first team ball with the Crew during the summer? It would definitely keep him fit.

    Let's see...

He started his loan w/ Everton in February, correct.
He plays till here until August and heads back. He then plays a full EPL season and comes back next May. He then comes back next summer and plays w/ the Crew through November 2004 (through in the first half of qualifying for '06). You're talking about 21 months of club football w/o a break for a 32-33 year old.

Hell, a spring chicken would breakdown at some point in 21 months, and he ain't no spring chicken.

I didn't have any problem w/ this loan. I saw it as an extended test drive. They like the car, but they should have to buy it to get it back.

McBride might want to stay. That's fine. But he and Everton have to understand that selling him for 12 pack, bag of balls and a $1.50 is would be a better than loaning him out for a full year..

    WHo cares?
    or
I'm sick of hearing about McBride!

recap (nothing new) from bbc america. 4 goals in 6 starts is very good.

also, of notice is today on 10TV at noon, they mentioned his loan period ending. they showed FSW highlights (yes, amazing, IMHO), of him scoring a goal against an english team (thinking it was against t-ham). They mentioned that Jim Smith has no intentions of letting him go to everton full-time.
