http://www.evertonfc.com/news/article.asp?id=5657 take this with a grain of salt, but interesting nonetheless. It'd be fun to see him go up against Keller.
this is a strange seeing Brian in anything other than a Crew or USA shirt I can see the interviewer rolling his eyes at that one Hope he bags a few
So, if he plays, will this be the first time a yank striker has faced off against a yank goalie in the EPL?
Who's Shirley (works better in audio). Wasn't Keller in spain by the time JMM arrived? If so, this might be a first, unless Preki and Keller were in the EPL at the same time ( which I don't think they were, and I don't know that it would count as Preki wasn't officially a Yank back then).
Last season 3 times: Keller saved a 90th minute blast from Joe-Max last year to preserve the game on January 19, 2002. JMM also played against Keller on 8/20/01 and Brad on 9/22/01 Edit: Make that twice. Sullivan was in goal for Spurs on 8/20
Funny all the excitement about McBride....If McBride = Moore's start in Premiership, there will probably be 50 threads started... I think the knee injury to JMM hurt him more than he let on (confidence, and even losing some explosion)..since that happened (April 00), he never recovered his 96-00 pace..I don't think he's been the same player, although he likely wouldn't admit that.. Nonetheless, he had still some good solid games (not scoring, but overall...), albeit inconsistent, with Everton in '01 and early '02... I think he did a terrific job there...given all circumstances, and I'd love to see JMM be able to tutor Quaranta at DC United for next couple year...it would be great for the kid to learn from a real pro who shows up every game.. If anyone "deserves" a max contract with MLS (and likely no one does), I'd vote for JMM....he's been a great pro, scored some very important goals for US nats, raised the awareness of US field players quality in a country where little respect was given to US field game....he's never been a whiner like Wynalda, Keller or played games/declined opportunites like Frankie...what Moore could one ask for?
The excitement is that McBride was consdired by Bruce Arena and many others as one of the top US forwards, while JMM, even when at his peak in the EPL, was considered more of a utility, fill-in player. For those that hold this view, it will be interesting to see how McBride does if he gets a chance to play much.
i think we should all pitch in and get him one... have him sport it and make it gingotex's new avatar? how's that sound?
<McBride vs. Moore> Say what? Except for WC goals (in final tourney), JMM has outdone McBride at every single level he's played (statistically and otherwise) by a (not huge, but) margin....McBride, if he starts, is only doing so because of injuries, and would not even be getting this opportunity if it wasn't for them. Moore, on the other hand, was signed with the full intention of being part of the 'squad', and earned being a starting striker at Everton for a while (after initially getting in squad because of injuries)..the injured guys healed, and yet they STILL started JMM for a few games. Its all good to be excited about McBride, but let's not forget/understate what Moore accomplished...it has been more than McBride (again, except for WC finals goals), and that is no slight to McBride, its just JMM has been more prolific than almost any other striker in US history (combining goals scored, appearances w/Nats with overseas level of play and performance). The only Nat at his level is Wynalda, and arguably, JMM was statistically better in MLS, and played longer and at higher level than Wynalda, although Wynalda did have one great individual season abroad
love them both but Moore was never an automatic starter for the USA like big Mac. Not because Mac is better but because his "type" is rarer- a bona fide center-forward, target man. Can hold the ball, fight off defenders, win knock-downs, etc. One big difference at Everton is that the coach there Moyes loves Mac. Had him at Preston, then tried to buy him outright for both Preston and Everton. That is a pretty big vote of confidence.I will not be suprised , if at the end of the loan, Everton buys him.
What the oddsmakers say on Brian. "First goalscorer odds" from bet365,com. Numbers are the return on a dollar including your original dollar. Robbie Keane 5.50 Kevin Campbell 6.50 Teddy Sheringham 7.00 Wayne Rooney 7.50 Steffen Iversen 7.50 Tomasz Radzinski 7.50 Les Ferdinand 8.00 Brian McBride 9.00 Duncan Ferguson 9.00 By comparisson here's how they view Kirovski: Thierry Henry 4.33 Francis Jeffers 6.00 Dennis Bergkamp 6.50 Nwankwo Kanu 7.00 Sylvain Wiltord 7.50 Clinton Morrison 9.00 Fredrik Ljungberg 9.00 Robert Pires 9.00 Stern John 10.00 Jovan Kirovski 11.00 Geoff Horsfield 11.00 Christophe Dugarry 11.00
<Moore not an automatic starter> I don't think that is correct. First, the guy is 2nd in all-time US goals with 24....he could not have gotten their without starting a significant amount of games. JMM was virtually automatic, but did not start a few times under Bruce because of Bruce's system, not talent-level....JMM was the guy who scored the goals that got us in the WC- lest we forget.. JMM also has been injured last few years
Moyes just said on SkySports that McBride could play, but didn't specify if he would start. SkySports Question: ``So there's a chance he may play Saturday?'' Moyes: ``Yeah, that's a possibility with Kevin (Campbell) out and Rooney serving a suspension.'' This is great for McBride and another great development for U.S. Soccer. My heart is racing almost as fast as the build-up before Reyna's debut. McBride's Everton bio reads: ``Renowned for being one of the best headers of the ball in the modern game.'' Makes him sound like a technician, doesn't it?
good news... and that kevin was most likely campbell. as long as kevin campbell and duncan ferguson are injured (which seems to be quite often) then brian will play because rooney and radzinski are the only other two strikers on everton's books. rooney is currently serving a 4-game suspenson.
