I'm glad he got the WP, but I'm upset that everyone keeps putting up that picture of him after the goal against Portugal. Do we really need to see the pucker up face again?

Yeah, it's only the greatest moment in his soccer life, scoring the clinching goal against a supposed European powerhouse before a worldwide TV audience of billions... Why would we want to see THAT all over again...

His mouth in that pic looks like a mouth on a blow-up doll.... not that I've actually seen one close up.

McBride obtaining that work permit is one of the biggest accomplishments by a YA this year and is great news because it really signals a new era for Yanks Abroad. Do you remember back when Joe-Max Moore couldn't get a work permit? We've come so far!!!

He never had to worry about a WP......he played in a ton of USMNT games. That was a no brainer.

Look Cheriffe, think about it this way.

If not for how far we've come, we would've never had "a ton of games" for McB to play in-- and he would've never gotten a work permit. Do you think the USMNT played so many games in 1999? I think not! Quit being such a doubter-- this work permit will probably open doors for other Americans at the UK Home Office.

By far one of the prettiest goals of the WC (I guess I am biased), but a beautiful cross from a defender to a striker, who broke his markers ankles by faking a near post run, then putting it away on the far post...just like they drew it up. Add to that that it was something they did in the supposedly lowly A-League, and it makes it f-ing hilarious too.

My favorite part was after the goal when the crowd is cheering (or buzzing, depending on loyalties), and you hear the female PA Announcer announcing all the details of the goal in Korean, and you very distinctly hear her say, through all of that stuff I don't understand, in a Korean accent, "Bry-an Mahk-Bride"...I just thought that
    was cool.

I hope he can blast a header or 2 home in Liverpool.

    McBride comments on Everton site

    http://www.evertonfc.com/news/article.asp?id=5634

the "headline" story currently on the everton site are comments by McBride - pretty much of the boilerplate variety. The one part that surprised me was ...

"McBride has already spent a few days around the Bellefield training headquarters and familiarised himself with one or two of his new colleagues including teenage sensation Wayne Rooney who he could replace in the Everton attack for this Sunday’s meeting at Tottenham."

...surprised to see the official site speculate that he could start for Rooney (is he suspended?) after Moyes said McBride might not play at all during his stay.

When did Moyes say he might not play at all? I missed that. Given the injuries and suspensions to other players, some are projecting that McBride will get significant minutes on Sunday.

Yes, Rooney is facing a 4 game suspension.

This is Moyes first comments posted on McBride and the Egyptian fellow. His comments include the following:

"He may play, he may not play. If the players continue to play as well as they have done this season, there will be no need to use him."

Can someone explain to me what happened to JMM again?? How did he go from bagging 6 goals in his first 7 games at Everton to hardly ever playing?? I can't imagine what these boards were (or would have) been like when that frenzy was going on.

UK work permits are based on playing in (I believe) 75% of National Team matches. Yes, there are some exceptions to that. Usually, if you miss matches due to injury. There are other reasons. But McBride getting a work permit does not in any way help any other Americans.

I believe that's "another bulge in the ol' onion bag." Not to be a nit-picker, but we can't be misquoting holy scripture can we?

yeah, but if we had been eliminated in the first round of the Gold Cup or the World Cup, we wouldn't have played enough games for McBride to get his 75%, now would we?

WORK PERMIT = WR PORK TIME for America!!!

And your nation has to be ranked in the top 70 (or something.) A Canadian missed out on a WP 1-2 years ago because Canada was 72nd in the FIFA rankings.

You can get around this if you're of the stature of George Weah. If the greatest player in the world was from some team ranked 100, he could get a WP.

Maybe you should email their webmaster a new pic? Sometimes instead of complaining you should take some intiative. You could send them a picture that you took at a Crew game or at a National team game and give them exclusive rights to the pic. Wouldn't that be neato? Just a thought.

I always liked McBride's game - I never thoguht he was given as much credit as he deserved. He goes in, does the job, and goes out. He had clutch goals for the US in qualifying for 2002 and is very consistent on the international level.

I think he will fit in well with Everton. His pace will compliment well - the only thing with lining him up alongside Rooney is that right now, Rooney is usually used as a late substitution, as McBride most likely would be, and they have different dimensions to their style of play. But he is the sort of player that can adjust his game accordingly, and will make an honest attempt to play alongside whoever.

    Should be an interesting ride.
